Milton: Gord Krantz is running again after 30 years as mayor. We endorsed him last time, with a caveat that it should be his last term in office before making way for someone new. This time we favour Gerry Marsh, a local store-owner and former IBM employee who wants more government transparency and more scrutiny of developers’ plans. He deserves a chance to show what he can do.

I meet Gerry couple of times at his store and at blood donation clinic. Nice person.

But Red Star endorsement. This is Toronto communists propaganda media, , which is full of slobs who hates conservative suburbia. They are indorsing criminal for mayor of Toronto. So, I don’t know if this kind of endorsement is good for Gerry here. Is he with liberals?

Agreed. I was going to vote for Gerry, but this scares me. Is there a hidden agenda here? Is Gerry a communist? Has he used his influence at IBM to infect all our computers with Orwellian spyware? Will he take my children away, only to return them as mindless liberal drones?

You guys kill me!

For the record, I'm not a member of any federal or provincial political party. If anything I lean towards Libertarianism.

Gerry Marsh
Candidate for Mayor

In other news…

“Toronto Star endorses Tea Party candidate Gerry Marsh.”

I expect to see pigs flying south any moment!

Just saw this interesting article re: the Canadian Champion's editorial article supporting Krantz for Mayor.

http://miltonsearch.com/2010/10/21/cham ... ks-krantz/

Thoughts?

I have to admit I was a little surprised to read the editorial supporting Krantz so blatantly and kind of dismissing the other candidates. The article above makes some good points.

I said it in another thread. I don't think the press should be endorsing any candidate prior to an election. Whatever happened to the idea of imparitiality in the press? It's dissappointing given the overall high level of impartial coverage I think Christina Commisso has provided to this point. The editorial opinion should have been left until after the votes had been cast. I recognize it's an editorial column, but I think it's yet another reason for people not to do their own research.

But, I'll add it's really interesting to see the Star endorsing one candidate and the local paper endorsing another. Maybe people will do a bit more reading this time.

Sure its cynical, but this is politics. I think the Star and the Champion may be using different criteria in making their endorsements.

Local papers get a lot af advertising revenue from the municipality and usually have a good relationship with incumbents. I think that local papers would have to be pretty confident that the incumbent was going to lose before they would endorse a challenger as a better candidate.

The Star doesn't have those constraints with a Milton endorsement.

That's definitely true. Good food for thought!

Papers have been endorsing candidates for as long as I can remember. Editorial pieces raving about why "we choose..." shouldn't surprise anyone. It goes back to the earliest days of North American democracy.
As for the Champion, I'd hardly call it a "ringing" endorsement. It actually seems more like a prediction than anything else. (They even say "predict" in the piece.) They don't exactly come out and say "We recommend Gord."
It's more like they're saying what everyone already knows (Even Gerry's supporters) Krantz will be very tough to un-seat.

Meh. I already knew that.

Congrats Gerry on the endorsement!

That said, it's the Star; a newspaper that endorsed John Tory when he ran for mayor until near the end... and then switched to David Miller. Take it with a grain of salt.

Good to know, thanks.
I like them as well.

Well, then, obviously the Champion is completely disconnected from the people in this community (or from the forum).

Rick must have a pretty good idea about the number of users on this forum. If we were to do a poll today (just on this forum) I'm pretty sure Gerry would win. And if that's the case, the friends of the friends of the forum users may also be swayed, and so on.

People tend to under-estimate the power of social media.

For the record, as we stated in other posts, we stand behind Gerry. It's time for a change!

Gerry! Keep the communication on the social media sites, it's amazing. Look at Calgary. The guy did the unthinkable and drew young voters to the polls simply by reaching out to them where they most can be reached!

Does this mean that if Gerry wins, Champion will loose their revenue as they didn't endorse Gerry? They sure will loose revenue from our local sears outlet :)

Marsh and Krantz are the only two viable options in the race for Mayor.

I watched the tv program showing the candidates yesterday and Volpe had no idea on half the questions and was pulling answers out of his arse, same with the Shsh guy.
