Anyone work in Hamilton? I'm wondering what the drive is like (normal rush hour times).

I currently work in Mississauga (Hwy 10 & 401), and it takes about 45 mins.

Any chance Hamilton would take any less time? Here's hoping it's not more!

I used to do the Milton-Hamilton run daily for about a year and half until last summer. It took 45mins in the morning & about an hour if I left the Hammer around 4:30. I worked up on the mountain so if you're trekking downtown, you could probably knock maybe 10-15 mins off that.

I did the Bronte to Dundas to Hwy 6 to 403 because of the construction at QEW & Bronte. If the flow on the QEW is now faster, you'll probably be too.

I do the commute everyday. I work around Centennial and the QE and heres my 2 routes.

25 to the 407 to the QE to Centennial ....that takes just under 30 mins.

25 to Dundas to Guelph Line to QE to Centennial takes about 40 mins.

The 407 isnt too bad as its only 2 exits and costs just over 3 bucks a trip. There usually isnt any traffic due to the fact your going against the rush hour direction and for that reason I like it !!

Hope this helps.

I did the same route for a few years working in Hamilton and had no problem. Morning traffic is usually good as youre going against the flow both times.

Sometimes coming down from the mountain can be rough if the weather is bad but overall its a good commute.

I work at McMaster, the commute is great. Takes me about 30 minutes from dropping the kids at daycare to my parking spot, and about the same back if there hasn't been an accident anywhere along the 403. Traffic is usually moving along with only minor slowdowns (although that depends on the exact time you leave - for example, I generally leave work at 4 and the 403 is wide open, but it can start to slow down a bit after about 4:15 or so). Just have to watch for the everpresent speed traps along that stretch of the 407. Lately there's been a cop lurking on Bronte south of Brittania, too.

That time assumes you are willing to take the 407. I usually get on and off at Appleby, since I live on the west side of Milton and it's easy to take the back roads over to the Appleby interchange. Haven't done it yet during the winter, but I'll switch over to Hwy 25/407 on days where snow might be an issue.

I commute daily from the Northwest end of Mississauga (will be from Milton in May) to Hamilton, and taking the 407 takes me about 25-30 minutes each way. Despite the cost, I find it's completely worth it as there is never any traffic and you avoid the mess that is the QEW through Oakville. Once I move to Milton will be trying different routes as well, but so far highly recommend the 407 just for the time saving.

From HVE I do Derry > Milburough > Carlisle Rd, then onto Hwy 6. I work at Hwy 5 and Hwy 6 and that route takes me about 25 minutes with a Tim's stop.

Unfortunately if a job opportunity comes up, I could care less where it is. I don't have to live there.

Besides, I went to McMaster University, and actually kind of like Hamilton (again I would not want to live there though).
