Well there is a new one that opened right near your new house called Fitness Inc. I think. We went in there a couple of times for day workouts\trial.

Its nice but the monthly is fairly expensive for what you get compared to the bigger guys.

Theres always the larger gyms like Premier and Goodlife but they come with thier issues as well.

All depends on what is important to you.

so funny.... every time someone asks for a gym, ppl mention crossfit.... which is good, but expensive.

I go to fitness Etc, I like it. My wife, myself and unlimited daycare costs us $75/mth.

I used to belong to Goodlife, but quickly switched when Fitness Etc. opened. I wouldnt touch Premier!!!

What do you find funny about mentioning crossfit Don?

It is indeed expensive ($120-$130/month) and though it falls under "gym", it's a completely different experience (i was member at Pur, Goodlife and premier) given the personal training you get, the different skills you develop, boxing classes...for me crossfit is like its own sport in some ways, that's why price wise i don't think you can compare to other gyms.

Best thing is to try it out and then figure out if its the right place for you...i can honestly say it was my biggest barrier to going there, but after a while i got so sick of the regular gym and jealous of my buddy who couldn't stop talking about his gym so i figured i would try it...i drank the blue koolaid...now i am hooked!

How it is one of the first place ppl mention.... I love the cult-ness of Crossfit... and then there are a bunch of "+1" for Crossfit afterwards... It makes me smile and laugh. I love crossfit, I would go to Firepower too if i wanted to spend the money. I started crossfit 2.5 years ago.... I do it at the globos, and hit a bunch of different boxes when I travel. Its totally worth the money... but once you know what youre doing, and have the concepts down-pat, you can crossfit anywhere. Which is what I do now.... I have a KB, skip rope and pull up bar in my garage... Im getting a TRX Tuesday too. I do heavys at Fitness Etc.

Maybe I can charge ppl to work out in my garage

How much? Is it heated?

And just curious about Crossfit, when you say they have things like boxing classes... do they have decent/qualified instructors or is it like Billy Blanks teaching you how to box just for exercise? Not knocking it, just curious as to the value/$$$.

For sure you can do a lot of crossfit type workouts on your own, which i think it's one of the strength of crossfiting...where ever you are you can have your own WOD (workout of the day) depending on what is available to you.

You will still get more variety doing it at the gym, plus you have the trainer and the group to train with, different team events/competition either sponsored by the gym or attended by members. Not everyone will like to workout in groups though...i get that.

Andrea who is the owner was a provincial boxing champ, national bronze medalist so it's not taebo!

Hey Don, where did you buy your kettlebells from?

CrossFit is great, but it isn't necessarily for everyone. I personally wouldn't just blindly recommend that gym to everyone who's asking for a reco on gyms. I'd be more likely to recommend it if someone was saying they were not getting results and wanted to try something new.

hey Alpha... I bought it through my old Box.... Element (Mississauga). I paid $50 for a 50# KB. It s a York KB... When they buy new ones for the box, they let their crossfitters know too and do one big buy on their account. We just pay the owners of the Box to money.

You can also get them at Play It Again SPorts sometimes. I have seen them at different fitness stores too, but they are pretty costly.... way more than a buck a lb.

Hey Alpha...i wouldn't blindly recommend to anyone, but i would recommend it for more reasons than simply "getting results". I've had decent to good results running and training in a gym before...i just got bored to death doing it. A big reason why people don't get results is because they aren't enjoying the experience that much.

As much as i like running, training for a half or full marathon can get taxing/boring. For my last half i dropped to 1 long run a week (as oppose to 4-5), did crossfit 3-4 times a week...it was more fun, my lower body was in less pain and i shaved 15 minutes off my time...uuhh i mean 15 seconds (ok that part isn't that great!).

I would recommend anybody to try it if they are bored, want a non-routine workout, enjoy being challenged and enjoy a bit more of a social/community experience...and it has to fit in your budget for sure.

cheers,
mat

$120 - $130 per month??? They really must give personal training for that kind of cost

Goodlife & Premiere are both MUCH cheaper ($300 per *year* & now no more sign up fees)
