I'd like to not have posts that are too personal or offending to other people. The problem is what one person thinks is offending someone else might think of as free speech.

My personal desire would be when I see a post that I think is out of the spirit of these forums, to delete it and then privately email the poster that I'm sorry but I removed their post because I felt it wasn't beneficial to have here.

But that would mean I'd be using my own opinion on what constitutes as offending or not. Obviously my judgement is only human. I have no allusions on always being able to tell absolute right from wrong.

I'm hoping people will vote for the..

As a Forum Administrator myself elsewhere, I have to agree with GregoryL. Your site, your rules. Do what you please, but still giving the forum members some sort of freedom.

That's how I run my site.

Agreed 100%. If I was the Admin I would not delete them, but I am not, Rick is and he is the one to decide. I fully support his decision, whatever it may be.

I fully agree as well.....although we do enjoy freedom of speech, that doesn't mean that everyone who does enjoy this site for the intentions and purposes it was meant for want to read about junk such as intolerance, or whatever else. As you could see yesterday everyone was up in arms, and probably had a crappy day.

I for one did not enjoy reading all of it.....it doesn't exactly bring out everyone's best in the neighborhood.

I'm all for it Rick, and thanks again for providing us with a method to connect with so many of our neighbors.....what a great tool and resource we have.

We have the internet that give us everything at our fingertips, but this takes it one step further for something as local as your front door.

Code of conduct should be appropriate for all members and very easy to follow. Sort of like how you have the Milton services / Advertisments setup.

If anyone can't follow a code of conduct, then leave or just be a lurker.

Agree that the call is up to the moderator/owner of the group, however where to draw the line is the tricky part.
Obviously this is regarding the threads and posts about the building of a temple and who may move to Milton as a result. While offensive to many, it is in regards to the community and voices the opinions of a few of its residents. Is that worse than people criticizing Portobello's or other restaurants/businesses? In the grand scheme of things, no, but if you're the owner of the business and your livelihood could be at stake, I think it may more of a direct impact. So should those be deleted?
I believe opinions, if stated without profanity, personal attacks and racial stereotypes, should be kept. There were personal attacks and stereotypes for sure (didn't notice any profanity) and I have no issue with those being deleted (or give the poster a chance to re-write it in a way that fits accepted guidelines), but I don't believe the basic opinions themselves should be deleted because the majority may not agree with it.
However, I do agree that it is ultimatley up to the administrator and as users of this fabulous forum, we should accept and defend any decision you make on it.

By the way, I voted No, but really that should be yes, if they are extreme, so in your math you can add one vote to yes, if extreme and delet one of the "no"s

I voted to give Admin (Rick) full discreson on which posts to delete and I stand by that. I would prefer that, unless a post goes totally out of topic, if a few posts needs deleteing, the whole thread gets deleted instead of pick-and-choose.

However, in general I'm for allowing people to speak their mind. I have no problem debating with people with different opinions and will not call them names if I dissagree.

I strongly believe that a community that speaks out its mind is much healthier than one that hides behind the political correctness flavour of the day.

The restrictions on emails question... Perhaps people don't want to be in others adress book in case of viruses and stuff like that. Is that what you mean by restrictions ( not putting an email address) or am I totally off?? I could be clueless sometimes!!! haha

I had no clue what Sam was taking about either, but your reply made me think along the same lines.

The choice to not make e-mail addresses publicly viewable on the forums is obvious. Any e-mail address that is plainly displayed on a webpage, can be very easily picked up by "spiders" and "bots" that crawl the internet, scouring for e-mail addresses to add to databases that are then later sold to spammers, hackers and virus creators.

Feel free to post your e-mail address on the forums, but I choose to keep my private.
