ummmm ya. It started around 2:30-3ish.....it was some kind of BRILLIANT construction work, wrong timing. Combine that with some kind of cop with all of 2hrs on the job who cannot direct traffic, and has no sense of time with how long he lets one way of traffic go at the intersection of 5th and Derry. What a mess!!!!!! I still don't understand exactly what construction they were doing....but I'll be damned that along with the rookie policeman, they had another 3 construction workers holding traffic signs, ultimately doing nothing.......WOW

Jessica :)

(Can you tell I got a little frustrated in that mess today??.......going and coming.... :) )

We had our PDI today and passed along there about 7:40 and it was a mess...we left at about 10 and it was still backed up....so they must have been there all day

For some reason they tore all the pavement up at the intersection so people are slowing down as there is a slight bump and all gravel there now. No idea why they would do that but I guess I wont be going that way for awhile.

They are probably doing all this work for nothing when they finally open up James Snow Parkway

Is there another way out for those who normally take Trafalgar north or south? I usually need Trafalgar south when leaving HV (I don't live there yet, but I come and go from that direction anyway), so I'm wondering if it'd be faster to take Thompson to Britania and then turn south on Trafalgar instead...

Nope, Thompson is all under construction as well- with the widening of the road and all of the new construction.

It's all growing pains guys- It could be ALOT worse.
I'm not one to preach but we are starting to sound like whiners!!
I'm sure they are doing EVERYTHIGN for a reason we are just not educated on what it is exactly they are doing.
I know as a society we always think that we can do a better job- however we all will be appreciative when it's all said and done, we are living in a fabulous small town, and have roads that accommodate our commutes to work, In the mean time- crank the music and just have some good old singing time!

P.S. I’m NOT picking a fight I’ve been there as well…cursing…afterwards I feel silly!

Is this still going on today? I get there after 3:00 so I'd like to re-route if need be.

Yesterday most of us turned around and went to 6th line - britannia - 4th line

Oh, no doubt there's a reason. Doesn't make it any happier a commute though. I'll tell ya, I'm all for the "greater good", but that excuse works well only when you can pass it along.

It's not easy to do that when your area is under construction and no one else's where you work is, you can't tell your boss daily: "Sorry I'm late again, but it's for the greater good of Milton!" - no, you have to get up a lot earlier to account for it, which frankly sucks. I'm not as patient as some people, I admit that freely, so I find that smiling into the mirror at 5am and singing "Put on a Happy Face" doesn't work well for me.

I'd rather find an alternate route, than allow myself to be shepherded around without an explanation. Add that to the fact that a lot of the time these big construction gigs end up going on FOREVER, and usually have fairly horribly directed traffic (snarl-ups everywhere, unnecessary pylons for miles) and it just makes a difficult situation even worse.

It's no single individual's fault, the crews do their jobs well, but it's a systemic breakdown/mismanagement that starts at the highest levels of urban planning, and it has a cascade fallover effect that we notice most profoundly near the bottom level (the construction zones). Many's the time I've been on the highway and there've been three kilometers of pylos blocking a lane on a perfectly good open road with no construction crew in sight and I have to wonder - WHY? Then the next day the pylons are all gone. And you know - they shoudn't have been there last time either. Stuff like that adds up.

What I'd love to see is, if they do that to a major through-way, they should make it a point to give the public a really good alternate route (or as good as the city can find), and make the public aware of that route with signage. That's done sometimes, but far less frequently than it should be IMHO.

D.

They should have left James Snow/4th line open. By closing it they have diverted traffic to the wrong locations.

It was bad this AM too.

They are damed if they do the constructions and damned if they don't. I do not think it is too much to ask for better more accurate road signs with more accurate dates. CN rail had signs out 3 weeks before closing the tracks for those weekends, a sign advertising possible delays within a 3 year period just does not cut it when there is only 4 viable east/west routes out of town.

It also should be co-ordinated with the region for the timing of the lights. The time periods should be doubled at least, since people drive throught the intersection @ 20 km due to the bumps...

Matt

I think I'll take Trafalger/ Britannia home tonight and then bike out there to see what's going on.

they are paving it now. Not sure if it will last all day, but the back up was better when I went by....it all has to do with who is directing the traffic, in order to keep it flowing at a reasonable pace.

Might be done by rush tonight.

Also why is it that Mattamy homes still have pop corn ceilings with all the money they charge for their houses?

So they can charge $1000 bucks on the smooth ceiling upgrade

PS. It has to deal with your drywall buckling and crappy workmanship. You cannot see the before mentioned with the pop corn ceilings.
