Has anyone been experiencing any issues with their internet lately?
My connection has been going up and down lately. At first I thought it was my router, but even when plugged directly into the modem, it would go down after 5 minutes for minutes at a time.

I even re-flashed my router and it was good until this morning again.

Called Cogeco and they claim it's on my end (naturally).

Just wondering if it's just me.

We're having the same problem, but it's only on some of our computers and not others. My laptop is always fine, but my son's netbook and the desktop both slow to a crawl on a regular basis. I've checked online for explanations and solutions but haven't found anything that works. Even Crave Computers couldn't figure it out.

Suggestions?

This is driving me nuts since it's an intermittent signal disruption.
If I get them to come and they don't find anything, it's an $85 charge.

I may check to see if it's the cable, but I still have an IP when the connection goes down, so I doubt that's it.

Sure sounds like your issue is not Cogeco since that would affect all computers at the same time. Likely nasties on your son's computers. AntiVirus/spyware up to date and run clean? Try speedtest.net to see internet speed. If you would like me to come and fix see my ad... Jeff..

We had his computer completely disinfected as well as the desktop, but it didn't help.

No such thing as 'completely disinfected'.
Also, Jeff is correct, simple IT support methods of ruling out what the problem is NOT, help determine what the problem IS.
If the speed is fine on a couple of computers, then your internet connection is NOT the problem.

Perhaps the network card on the PC is manually set to 10MBPs half duplex
Perhaps spyware is lingering
Perhaps years of use have naturally slowed it down and there just is not enough Ram to support all the tools and programs running on startup.

Speedtest.net is a great tool for measuring pure download speed, as he mentioned.

Perhaps your zamboni cost comparison software is slowing everything down. lol Either way, don't discount Jeff's reply. He's bang on.

I have also had problems since Sunday and called them on Monday and they also said it was my fault. I was told to restart my router as well as to clear all of my cookies, caches, etc. I have done that but am still having trouble accessing some sites, all very different from one another like ING, Pinterest, blogs, etc.

There's a known issue with Cogeco and routers right now - connect direct and no problems. My belkin stopped working, but I switched to my dlink, it's fine.

I called Cogeco and the acknowledged the issue and said it wold be fixed ASAP. No ETA however...

Some update must have screwed it all up...

Just to clarify as well. I've got phone service with them and have the Ultimate 30 so I know it's some weird modem model they use for the ultimate plans.

Currently, I've got the orange lights on for Link and DS.

^^ There's nothing wrong with her connection if speed test is returning 4 mbps download and .63 upload. She pays for a 4mbps connection, so, while it's not the slowest, it's not very fast either. It doesn't surprise me that streaming content buffer's.

If she had a problem with distributel as well, I would say cogeco is probably right - the problem is likely on her side.
