Hey, Maybe now the police will sell that house cheap at an auction or something. Might be a future bargain as long as their's not any mould in the house.

But realistically, I think people who do those grow house things look for quiet nice unsuspecting neighbourhoods to do it it. It happens in most new suburbs unfortunetly. I can't figure why they don't do it further up north in cottage country or something. You figure it would be less risky for them in getting caught.

Almost no one will give you financing for a former grow house, even if it has been gutted and refurbished with all of the environmental tests done. It's pretty much a write off. Some hole in the wall banks might, but even GE and CMHC won't insure it....just too much of a health risk.

Jessica :)

Angela,
That was a fire due to that. I thought it was due to the homeowner doing work (other than drug growing) downstairs etc... Hmmm that's interesting, people are still living there are they not? Also there was another a couple years ago on Baverstock (townhomes in phase 1) a guy got busted there too. What's with these people, they really need to get a life!!

Angela,
I was wondering if you can share what are some signs we as a community should be looking out for to stop grow-op houses. :)

Some signs:

No one is usually around....you know, the house doesn't look "lived in", drapes are ALWAYS shut, the garbage "mysteriously" gets out each week, and is a small amount, the lawn gets cut only every so often.

In the winter, the snow on the roof usually melts very quickly in comparison with others....(due to the high levels of heat)

Suspicious activity...again, you only see neighbors coming or going, at odd hours....sometimes can be different people all the time. People come home for s short period, and then leave again, not to be seen again for a few days.

There is lots of info available on the CMHC and Genworth websites on Growhouses. As always, if you suspect a growhouse in your area, obviously contact the police. They are very dangerous....fires are very common.

Hope this helps. We get so much training on grow houses,

Here's something interesting that's just been passed about grow houses.

It will be nice when Canada joins the other progressive countries in the world and legalizes marijuana - and get rid of the need for these houses once and for all.

So, smoking marijuana is progressive but smoking cigarettes is regressive.

Not to mention Insurance... I have seen many Agreement of Purchase and Sales coming through with clauses that the Vendor warrants that the house has never been used as a grow-op in order to protect the buyers as they attempt to insure or mortgage a house they have recently purchased.
