I predict the number of "race" cyclists will triple here in Milton in the next 5 years. It is a very addicting sport that combines stamina & speed. The roads here are amazing & a lot of cyclists come here from Burlington & Oakville to ride.

I think the T de F is more exciting to watch now with Lance out of the pack. He was too much of a dominant figure & dwarfed the abilities of the other riders.

You can also check out the Oakville Cycling club for organized rides and a great way to familiarize yourself with popular routes of various distances in the area. I agree - cycling is trememdously popular in the area as it's great terrain for it and this has been popular training grounds for recreational and competitive cyclists for quite some time. I think we'll only see that increase so I'm glad to see more accomodation being made for cyclists as the town grows.

Many people remember this accident. I drive a car too and you need to remember to slow down on the back roads. Cyclists are vehicles on the road and have just as much right to drive on any city roadways, at "any" time of day.

If common sense were to prevail, all cyclists would wear a helmet, ride close to the curb lane and drivers would slow down (stop if you have to) giving riders the room they need to ride.

Can somebody tell the cyclist coming up from Oakville to use 4th line instead of 6th when going north. They can cut through the closed off section of 4th (park) close to the 407. The work around the bridge on Lower Base Line is soon to be complete however 4th and 5th line are still dead and have been for almost a year.

Please drive your car on Trafalgar or Hwy 25...6th is one of our favorite routes.

If I could take my car/motorcycle over the 4th line bridge I surely would. My suggestion was meant for your safety not mine. Take whatever road you want, just don't bitch about drivers not sharing the road enough. There are thousands of drivers going through 6th line everyday and dozens of cyclists. My observation is that the really responsible and safety conscious cyclists drive north/west of Milton and then get on their bike, where they have the roads virtually all to themselves.

though I often find the pack cyclists frustrating as well, they have the right of way on the road as much as you do as a car. You are equals on the road.

So if you cannot safely pass them driving on the centre line, or don't feel comfortable doing it, then you need to bring your speed as a car down until you CAN safely pass them. If that means you have to drive behind them at a crawl for a while, so be it.

Like it or not, those are the rules of the road.

I'm not a cyclist, btw, just get frustrated when people say that they are coming close to cyclists and almost clipping them because there isn't enough room or it isn't safe to pass in different spots.

Everytime I see the Tour de France types on Brittania, I'm in absolute awe of the phenomenal calves development you guys have. Some of you guys have better calves than some professional bodybuilders I used to work with.

I used to ride a lot as a child, but it always felt like it was my quads doing all the work. For those who ride and have sick and deadly calves (I am truly envious of you all), were they developed from cycling (are those muscles even used in any capacity in cycling??) or were they mostly genetic, or from other sports you played?

Mountsburg Rd, Twiss, anything north west of Milton and into the Campbellville/Moffatt area offers a nice variety of terrain. Some nice false flats, rollers and a few aggressive climbs, and a lot of these roads have little to know car traffic. Even roads south of Carlisle are nice too. West of hwy.6 is Safari Rd is where the Good Friday Road race is held and there are some great hills there too.

My club rides out to Waterdown, and rides up Snake road or we head over to Dundas and ride up Syd (Sydenham Rd). Dundas has Cafe Domestique. A cyclist cafe and hangout that also sells beer. A really cool place with lots a memorabilia from pros and a great destination for a ride.

strava.com is a cool site you can use to track your routes, and compare your own training to others that use the same routes. You can get the app for free for your iphone or if you have a Garmin cycling computer, you can download all your data there. You can also look up what others are using as training routes too. Fastest times in a segment of road gives you King of the Mountain status.

Also with the construction at the school and near 4th Line on LSL the intersection is very narrow. I use that route going to drop off my daughter to daycare and there are times it gets backed up and the Milton Transit bus cant make its turn.

The multi use path yes...the road, no.

Obviously, the solution is a roundabout at 4th Line and LSL.

Please do not ride your bikes on these roads during rush hours - morning or night.

Especially Britannia and Derry, it's dangerous and frustrating to the cars travelling on these roads trying to get home from work.

In all honesty, I don't really care if it is frustrating for drivers...I see tons of other racing cyclists out there and most drivers slow down and give us lots of room.

I'm not a "pack" rider, I stay as close as I can to the curb & use hand signals.

Good for you - so you're probably the one biker that isn't a complete douche.

I don't care if you want to go out at ANY other time of day or weekends, but why do bikes have to go out at 7:30-9 in the morning, or 4:30-6 in the afternoon on weekdays? Especially down roads like Britannia and Derry?

Maybe they are commuting to work?

I think he's saying that for your own safety. Not everyone is comfortable driving on the center line, to avoid a cyclist, when another car is coming in the opposite direction. Especially in that sweeping S-bend area that goes down over that bridge.

I have no problem blowing by a cyclist at 80km/h and coming within inches of your handlebar, but I was in the car with my nervous-wreck fiancee one time and she almost killed one of you in that same section.

Favourite road or not, it's not worth dying for.

Isn't the speed limit 50 km/h through the s-bend section on 6th line?
