Around 4 today the contractors working on the culvert on 4th line hit the gas main. They have mangaged to turn off the supply to it, but approx 100 homes are without gas. The last news I got was that they will have it fixed by midnight and then Union Gas has to turn on the gas appliances...furnaces, hot water heaters etc.

Thank you Sharon for letting us know!

I see that Mike Cluett is not really taking the time to update the constituents lately. There seems to be quite a bit of construction/development happening in Ward 6 but Mike is nowhere to be found to update us all.

The latest from Union Gas is the line will be worked on through the night and they think it will not be fixed until 7 AM. At that point reps from Union Gas will start knocking on doors of the affected homes.
Union Gas says they know which homes are out.
If you are not home when they come by they will leave a card with their 24 hr emergency number on it...1-877-215-6959

Thanlfully not going to be too cold. If were told of any warming stations opened up we'll let everyone know.

He might be busy doing real councillor work. If the only thing you have on the go is running down stationary clothing bins, you will be left with some time on your hands. Mike has been visibly active in so many arenas, your comment is just a tad unfair.

I agree, Mike has been as involved as he needs to be and then some.

I would have to agree. Mike' involved in a LOT of community activities. Sharon had this covered so there was no need for Mike to get involved. If you need info on Ward 6, check out his website or Twitter Feed. Besides, He's done a lot more than the other councillor for Ward 6!

PS Thanks for the heads up Sharon.

Ouch! What updates might you be looking for? Mike's website is very comprehensive, and he's a prolific twitterer about ward 6 happenings! Between volunteering with the Haunted House, the Legion poppy drive, United Way, starting a new job, his regular councillor duties he's been pretty busy. And 4th line is on the border of ward 1 and 6 so glad that either councillor for the area posted it here. BTW, Sharon is immensely active outside this board as well. Glad to have so many of our councillors post here as well as maintain a busy work and community schedule.

I don't follow Mike on his website. I come to this forum to get my updates.

Just in a km of radius of around me, there is a high school that is going up, apparently there are plans for another elementary school on Derry, construction all along 4th line and now road closure at 4th line and Derry.

I quickly went on Mike's website and I saw Movember, Haunted House, Remembrance Day, Celebrating Stories, Council eyeing Velodrome etc.

All this if fine, BUT, for me, Ward 6 comes first. I want Mike to make Ward 6 the best Ward in Town :).

Perhaps, start a Ward 6 thread and keep us up to date on all the improvements planned and implemented.

I voted for the guy and I have every right to be critical if I feel so. I am not known for "pussy footing" around here :).

Well, nothing to update on the high school really. There's the thread on it's naming (that Mike posted in) that is about the only relavent thing going on currently related to that.

Nothing of note has happened on the proposed elementary school at 4th and Derry in so far as council items. I believe the school board's received funding for it but they have yet to bring anything related to zoning or servicing to council.

He regularly posts the council agenda items that might interest people, Admin and Planning agenda items. He had his thoughts on the Velodrome proposal which would affect all of us potentially if it was approved.

Not alot going on in the way of construction, zoning approvals in Ward 6. What do you expect an update on? We're kind of a boring ward in so far as development items go.

That being said - a Ward 6 thread is a good idea.

Keep in mind - this isn't some sort of "official" communications forum. We're just lucky to have many of the councillors here.

Just a quick update....we received an email from our fire chief outlining what happened in the area and the status of some homes that currently dont have gas.

Union Gas has been in contact with these homes, approx 130, will have their gas service restored approximately 830 tomorrow morning.

Hopefully we will have another update tomorrow as to the status of the affected homes.

It is if it's maintained. The Ward1 update thread is hardly ever updated. You mentioned in another thread that the Ward1 rep has been fairly active in the community. Haven't seen anything on her website or in the update thread to reflect this but I trust you, so I'll accept it. Perhaps you can lend Ward 1 a hand and update the thread for us since our rep is too busy to do so. Thanks.

wow... am I reading this all correctly? Some of you people really feel that our councilors should be updating all these threads regularly??? I would rather see them out in the community or in meetings rather then updating some online discussion board.

If you really want to know what they're doing. Why don't you just go to a few of those public notice meetings. You know the meetings that they post on here all the time. I am sure if you start attending these meetings, you will know what is going on in your community, and what your councilor is doing about it. I am also sure you will be able to meet your councilors, talk to them about various issues and get a real grip on your wards activities. You do not want to commit some your time to your own ward, but you feel the need to criticize someone for not updating an discussion board, at your begging call :?

It always amazes me, how some people feel that. " it is their right"
