I have 2009 Honda Civic DX-G, I would like to have Remote Starter and Touch screen GPS with Bluetooth in it. I asked Honda Dealership and they have Starter for $699 and they cannot put GPS in this model I believe.

From Bestbuy, I can get remote starter installed in $299 and I can get GPS around $700 + Tax + $80 installation.

Question here is, if I get these done from outside (not from Honda), does it void my warranty? I have few more years of warranty (Comprehensive) left.

Did anyone installed any of this after market? Any recommendation for doing this after market, any place / garage or online site to buy (in dash GPS) would be a great help.

Thank you.

It's not going to affect say your drivetrain warranty if hypothetically, you blow an engine or tranny (provided you do all your maintenance), but say for example, you install an aftermarket deck and then you had a speaker problem, Honda would not warranty it and make you go see the installer instead.

For your generation Civic, you're gonna need a dash unit to accomodate an aftermarket deck, and then a few adaptors for the antenna, power and steering wheel volume controls (if you have that feature). If you're concerned about warranty coverage, ask your local Honda dealer if you could bring in an aftermarket GPS deck, then have their installer install it and see if that will help maintain warranty. Virtually all dealers either contract an installer to come in once a week, or they sublet the job to a local shop.

Do you by any chance need an engine air filter or in-cabin filter for your Civic? I have one of each (Genuine Honda filters) for your car I'm trying to unload, and can help you install for free. LMK.

Good luck.

Have you considered buying a portable GPS unit? Might be an option instead of potentially voiding your warranty. Several of the newer Garmin and TomTom units have blue tooth in them for making phone calls.

I had an issue with GM a number of years ago after I had a car alarm/remote starter installed. A few days before the alarm was installed my turn signals stopped working properly and GM immediately said it's not our problem it must've been the alarm/starter that caused the issue. I was fortunately able to provide them with a TSB number that referenced the exact issue I was having and once they investigated the TSB and looked into the car it turned out I was right. But, the point is, the dealer may look at this as being an excuse not to cover a warranty.

When I bought my Toyota (not from the Milton dealership so I can't speak about this location) I had the remote starter installed by them and they told me they do install third party starters that are cheaper than the Toyota one and they provide full warranty on them. I found that out the day I was picking my car up after having already purchased it and having the starter installed.

Like alpha said, it would be worth asking the dealership if they would install a product you provide them and still keep the warranty.

Thank you all for your input, we have been talking to different persons at dealership (from Sales to Parts) and got few things:
1. They denied to install third party accessories as they can not believe quality of many other products
2. Warranty will be void for components that are modified or touch by others (other than Honda)
3. They are highly recommending for portable GPS and not the in-dash as Civic that I have is not so good with those GPS system and issue with those are common after year or two.
4. For Bluetooth, they are recommending for portable earpiece than anything else, Parrot can be installed for $400 but Bluetooth with Portable GPS is not so good in sound quality and connectivity.

Resolution:
1. I may ask other dealership to get Remote Starter (non environment friendly for 3 months) and see if they can installed third party starters
2. Will get portable GPS and will try its Bluetooth for now, if it is not good, I will get either Parrot or earpiece.

Thank you all once again.

The Honda factory car starter hooks in to the existing wiring harness, no soldering or other connections are required. Have a look on ebay for a Honda manufactured one. They are often around 50% off.
