just did this. they ask you if you want the plug and the cable exit hole on the left or right. and how far left or right. this is where you set up the dvd player, ps3 etc whose wires go up behind the wall and into the plasma

Yes, and you choose not only which wall(s) but the exact location on the wall. Specifically, you choose the location of the TV itself (and therefore the electrical outlet) and you also choose the location where the conduit will terminate and the cable outlet will be placed.

Is it worth it to get it? My dad did ours on his own with no problems I just don't know how much of a price difference it would be to get it done thru the builder or if we do it ourselves. It costs $160 thru Mattamy

No it's not worth it.

Especially if you're going to use a receiver and/or wall mount a center channel.
All that bracing just gets in the way, and if you get a professional installer all that nonsense just gets in their way.
Most good wall brackets have adjustable mounting points so you can line them up with the studs without having the TV off center.

Save your money on this one.

Thanks for the input! We'll cross that off our list. we aren't even 100% sure of which wall we would need it for and figure it would be easier to decide after we've actually seen the place.

I did it - to get conduit piping to run wires - and wish I hadn't. Just ended up being a pain in the ass. I couldn't get my HDMI cable to run through it properly, purchased a fish tape from Home Depot, still was a pain in the ass. For the money I spent, I would have just requested an installer to come in and run the wire and be done with it once and for all.

Is this upgrade worth it? Mattamy is asking for $167 for the plasma ready wall on our great room. How much would this cost to get a contractor to do it after closing? Would appreciate it if someone can shed some light on this one. Thanks in advance !

This is what it says on our upgrade list:
Install Framing for wall mounted tv in specified location. includes relocation of existing cable, an additional receptacle beside relocated cable outlet, additional support framing for future installation of wall mount tv and conduit to specified locations.

trust me just get them to do it - i am so regretting not having them do it. I fished cable through a wall for fun in my old home and decided hey ill just do it again...i spent three days getting it setup and ended up ripping dry wall out. I know you may not go as extreme as i did but couple hundred bucks is more then worth it....installer will charge in and around the same but the feeling of walking into a new home and having this done already is worth it...anyways thats my thought on the matter.

$167 for us also. Chose to get it this time, includes a power outlet for the TV above fireplace, and they put in 2 conduits (including the one over the fireplace).
Would probably take me 3 hours to do it, including cleaning up the mess, etc... Worth it imo.

Yes, at your DC appointment you have to indicate which wall you want your TV on, as well as the location on the wall where the TV will be ... you also have to pick where you want your conduit from your TV to end ...

We recently had a 51" wall mounted in our village home and it never even occurred to us to get a plasma ready wall. It's no problem doing it without the upgrade. We had Paulo do ours and it was a perfect job. You can check out his thread and there are lots of pics on it here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17457

I think it's an important upgrade to get if you'll be mounting over a fireplace as it would include the conduits for access that wouldn't be easy otherwise. But for the village homes it's unnecessary so you can save the upgrade money for something else with no worries.

Good luck and enjoy your new home!

Its good to have Plasma ready wall, there is a conduit (same pipe as Central Vac) ran from behind the TV to the Table in the bottom, also mattamy reinforce the wall so you can hang the TV easily. As the picture shows Mattamy does installed the Plasma ready on an insulated wall
