Next month is the annual CEDIA Expo trade show and we will be attending as usual. This year it's in Indianapolis.

CEDIA Expo is the place for professional custom electronics installers to attend, learn new tasks, and see all the new electronics for home theatre, home audio, home automation and lots more.

We have 3 days of training and 2 days of show to attend!

During the show I'll be doing my best to post Twitter updates for all the new and cool stuff that we see around the show. There is over 400 exhibitors and more than 25000 industry professionals expected to show.

We completed this basement theatre just before Christmas.



The screen measures 100" and is acoustically transparent. This allowed us to place all the front speakers behind the screen to make the sound come from the image and enhance the effect.



There are 4 in-ceiling speakers for surround and a single remote control with touch screen to control everything easily and automatically.

We designed, supplied, installed and set up everything for this basement.

I sometimes have difficulties explaining exactly what we do. It's difficult because we do so many different things.

So here's a list of things that we did last week:

Mounted 3 TVs
Basement renovation where we cleaned up all the existing wiring, and roughed in for TV, phone, network and home theatre
Integrated a PS3 and Wii into a clients media room
Diagnosed and fixed an alarm system that a client put a nail through when mounting some shelves
Installed a lot of cat6 as a retrofit in an existing home
Mounted keypads and touchpanels in our showroom
Installed a lot of cat6 as a retrofit in another home
Consulted on several home theatres and basement designs
Started design for access control and cameras on a condo building

Inspected a condo building that is under construction as we are doing all the access control and cameras there
Diangosed issues with an alarm system
Mounted several speakers on wall for a surround sound system

Terminated network jacks
Ran speaker wiring through a house
Cleaned up and roughed in 2 basements for TV/phone/network wiring

We've put a lot of effort into getting equipment installed in our showroom for the last while.

Here's a wall of touchpanels.



What's a touchpanel? It's a dedicated device with a touch sensitive screen that allows you to manipulate and control aspects of what you see, hear and feel in your home.
The big one in the middle is actually an iPad that we have set up to control everything.

From these devices you can:

Control audio from any of the speakers installed around your home, be it from an FM tuner, iPod or TV.
Access your alarm system to enable/disable/check on it
Adjust the thermostat for the house, very handy to do it from the master bedroom, or use your phone remotely before you get home to get the house to the right temperature
View the cameras in and around your home, see who is at the front door immediately!
Change the lights, turn them on, off, dim

And the really nifty thing is, we can make all of these things work together.

Arm your alarm to leave the house and all the music, TVs and lights, turns off
Disarm your alarm when you come home and the foyer lights turn on
