Crappy hospital and crappier staff!

Waited 10 hours before seen with chest pain and short breath! Guess what! I almost f*** died! It turned out a blood clot that just passed through the heart and lodged in the lung. Guess what? After being admitted, I was placed in a chair as no bed where available and had to wait and wait again before being seen as there was a scheduling mishap and no doctor was in the hospital!!! Are you kidding me?
And guess what else? I was sent home after receiving an high level of blood thinners to prevent a heart attack over night until they had a bed the next day!

This system and hospital suck!

Why not just march your butt 15 mins up the road to CVH or OTMH.
Problem solved?

I've taken my mother to OTMH emergency before. I often get off my a$$ and buy my coffee in Tim Horton's instead of waiting in a drive thru.

Odd, when a family member went in with the exact same symptoms as you (chest pains, muscle contractions and shortness of breath) the admitted her right away. They must have thought you were really obnoxious and a true type A to have made you wait.

Wow. Only on the internet will people think it's okay for you to not get some attention when you have heart attack symptoms and then call you an asshole.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm all for being an asshole, but geez - you guys are cold!

I could have swore there was a comment on here that directly called Mr. Big an a$$#ole but it appears to have been deleted (I did not see any edit footnotes). Now it looks like your comment is directed at me. My Tim Horton's reference was a metaphor that some people are too lazy to drive to another hospital in general. I took my mother to OTMH because it was an emergency that could easily wait an extra 15 to 20 minutes. As I mentioned earlier you need to assess the urgency of your emergency. Mr. Big's symptoms are definitely extremely urgent and he should have received better care. Kind of hard to kick someone out of a bed though. Emergency wards are so egregiously abused by the public for very minor issues that it results in even poorer service to those truly in need.

Glad Mr. Big is all right!

My 89-year old grandma was in Milton Hospital for about a week last month with a broken shoulder. She had to spend a night in the ER because of the lack of beds on the med/surgical floor. There was this one nurse who looked after her that night was really kind to her. I kept going into visit her, when she was up in her room and I get the feeling the hospital is bursting at the seams, and they keep stitching them back together.

Education is the key to the E.R. situation. People need to realize when they have a true emergency (chest pains, shortness of breath, broken bones etc) and when they can wait to see their Doctor.

We need to add user fees to healthcare and lower taxes to those who do not use the health care system.

No that the momentary perma-grin from finally hearing news of the new hospital has warn of (not all that perma), what does it mean for funding? Will the Town (read us) be on the hook for a significant part of this expansion fee? What does this mean for the hospital levy (increase, remove?). Where does the money from this levy now go towards?

I'm also cautions about the political grandstanding and does someone pull the plug on this. How long till we see a shovel in the ground (they can still cancel, but its harder after contracts have been awarded).

The the others that aren't all that excited because they aren't old... hospitals are for the old & young (kids). If you are late 20s, 30s, you should think about them :) There are a lot of people that drive by MDH and go directly to credit valley because the Emerg isn't up to snuff -- there also no (this could have changed) on staff pediatrician. Many people have to go to other hospitals if they are anything but low-risk pregnancies. Of course they will still have to go to sick kids, or hamilton if its really serious, but that makes doesn't mean we should try staying a level 1 hospital forever!

Don't worry, when out property taxes and hospital levy start increasing you will know that the hospital is being built. Add those taxes to the Velodrome expenses, then this should be a great place to live.
