I see that Standard Broadband are offering internet service to businesses and residents in Milton, using Wireless technology.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with this company and service? I know that they were under a different name "Look, Communications" but are now in Liquidation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Look_Communications

There service offering seems to be pretty impressive, check it out: http://www.standardbroadband.ca/

Interesting, just wondering how consistent the speeds are. Just judging by performance of other satelite-dish services (expressvue, etc), results seem to vary greatly depending on line-of-sight to the broadcast source and even weather conditions.

Thanks for the info. Have u checked the site, dsl reports on this company?
I still think hard wired Internet is faster and more reliable speeds.
Who knows what interference could degrade the signal.

They are running out of the old LookTV building. Look went under a while ago. I suspect they are setting up a similar service.

These guys are GREAT. Speeds are awesome and very consistent and they are really lovely to deal with and you can't beat the price! Totally recommend!

hey Irish,

If your using them, you mind posting some pics of the setup? What kind of antenna did they mount, how big is it? how did they get the line into your house, and what type of wireless transceiver are they using?

Im curious to know, but they dont have any of this info posted on their website.

Thanks very much in advance.

I had an unpleasant experience with standard broadband , they keep the costumers unaware of 200$ installation charges ,even the guy who came to install showed the work order when he was done. One more thing in their contract if for no reason some one wants to cancel their service they will charge 75 $ .This price should be updated on their website ,as they are in the competitive market with other ISPS ,they claim that they are not comparable with bell and rogers as the equipment they use are high tech !!

Well, i dunno about the miscommunication for the install fee you were given.. They were very up front / forth coming with that with me.

Ive had a few conversations with the VP, and he has always taken the time to answer all my questions.

I'm getting it installed on Monday, so I will let you all know how it goes.

Thanks.

I used to have Look t.v. and internet, they used a dish and the microwave technology (what ever that is), they were great, I still got their dish on my roof, so I'm wondering if this is the rebirth of Look communication.

Once the end user pays for the $200 installation fee, would he be owning the hardwares (dish and modem) afterwards or they are still property of the ISP?

Was just having a look at these guys and was wondering if anyone above has signed with them, and what their thoughts are?

I just signed up with them today. Yes I am paying the 200 install charge, but I figure for unlimited download and half price of Cogeco, I will be saving money come December.

Any last minute questions you want me to ask?

I'll let you know what it looks like after today. ;)

You might want to save even more money!!!

Nice speeds! I've been with them for over a month too. Speed tests clocking in at over 25mbps for me with unlimited usage for $25/mth, how can you beat that? I'm still baffled why people are still with Bell/Cogeco. I even left Teksavvy for these guys.

Just wondering how come your antenna looks more squarish? Mine is round like the ones shown on their website.
