I don't think I'll be able to make it to the neighbourhood park public information session tonight, as I'm still in the east end. Can someone post information on how it went. Thanks!
A very small percentage of the people that were there came for our park (I'd say about 97% of the people there were for the Willmott park). So from the 3%, I'd say there was me and one other person who bought in the new Milton Trails site, the rest were home owners on Given Lane (at least once the presentation started; other people came afterwards).
What I found interesting was that nobody seemed to offer anything useful other than to flash their NIMBY card against the concept of the park. The concept of the park was very high level so I can only report that the park planner anticipates around 4 sports fields, 2 parking lots, and a pedestrian trail. No decision was made as to what type of sports field would end up in the tentative designated area (i.e., soccer, baseball, tennis, basketball, etc.,), or whether any of them will have lights but what I can say is that there didn't seem to be a lot of space designated as natural play areas/green space. The planner did mention to me afterwards that there is a demand for baseball/softball diamonds, so we can probably expect to see them there.
In terms of the NIMBY comment above, the residents of Given Lane (with the exception of Colin of course -- who kept reminding people that he didn't have a say/couldn't get involved and stood in the background smiling, in that sort of way that politicians do when you know they're not happy <-- my opinion) all expressed their "slightly more than disappointed" opinion on the proposal of the second parking lot for the North-West corner of the park. The problem was that people would have to drive through Given Lane to get to the parking lot since it will continue to be a dead end. Of course they are only upset that Given Lane will no longer be their personal driveway anymore (my opinion).
Anyway, there is an "Online Feedback Survey" that is being encouraged to be filled out. Here's the link:
