thought this website was intended for people to ask questions and give advice on their homes that they have purchased or living in. I joined the site almost 2 years ago, and as of late I have noticed it has turned into a giant bitch session about political opinions and how poorly run this town we live in is. It seems that there are less and less joys in life everyday, this site used to fun. But now.... not so much.

Agreed 100%

This site is for discussing any topic we, the posters want to, well, as long as Rick does not cut us off (hey Rick, would a donation toward next year hounted garage buy me any favours? :D ).

This is a site that Rick set up to get in touch with other Mattamy homebuyers the he met on the week long camping out at Mattamy sales office back in 2003. I guess it was initially started as a point of discussion on homebuying experience, home construction experience, upgarades and other issues related to the process. But, since most of original posters that were on teh site from the beigining are now living in their homes in HV, it makes sense to use the same forum to discuss any issues that concern them.

I see no problem with people expressing their opinions on issues that concern them. As a metter of fact, I rarely go to the other sections of the site (beyong general section) as these issues do not interest me anymore.

It's kind of funny that new users to the site will come in and try to censor old users because they do not like what they discuss.

I dunno, 3 posts from TreeHugger and all about this? Seems like a spammer or something to me. I mean, if you really are in Milton (Halton) and/or are buying a Mattamy home, why would you "introduce" yourself to a chat board in this fashion?

So what! What does it matter how many posts they have or how long they have been here?

Dude, I'm just noting board etiquette on the other (much more populated) board that I'm on. I have no problem with a PSA, but what rubs me the wrong way is the fact that this person has only posted about this... this is "Hawthorne Villager Forum" and I think that general discussions are fine, but I don't have respect for posters who pop up and post something just to stir up controversy.

In my opinion, it would be the same if someone came in and posted something about "Get Rich Quick!" or "Teen XXX movies"

In fact, I'm surprised this post has garnered this much attention, on other boards they usually die a quiet death.

This post was meant to spread awareness. It seems many of you are missing that rather obvious point. If only you people spent your energy on good causes like treehugger has instead of finger pointing and making "jokes" about important subjects like this, the world would be a much better place.

Be that as it may, TreeHugger (and you, to be honest) would have probably gotten a much better reaction had he/she felt out the sensibility of the board first before posting something like this.

I don't understand your thinking. Are you saying that just because someone is new, they can't call you out on your rude, juvenile comments? Sorry but logged hours on the forum doesn't excuse you for being an insensitive, disrespectful jerk.

Uh, yeah, I feel that way pretty much. How would you feel if a "stranger" called you a jerk? Why wouldn't you post under your other (older) ID anyway?

Um, if you read back through the NKMAC posts you'll see that hubs and I did not in-fact belittle or poke fun at ANYONE or THING. In fact, hubs did mention buying free-range in his PS.

So, please take the time to respond to poster's accordingly and not lump everyone who has responded in this post into some stereotypical animal-hating person.

I eat Veal as well and farmed Salmon! I'm sure I'm going straight to hell! Not every one's politics or choices are the same and that doesn't make someone who disagrees with yours a bad person.

Treehugger, you are indeed a caring person. We need more people like you to remind us what is really important.

Well China issue is a little bit different. We are on the military porpoise for the liberty of people in Afghanistan, but every one of us is supporting Chinese Communist Regime, which is no freedom of speech regime. Who cares about it if Wal-Mart is everything?
My point was it is so easy to take care about how chicken are dropping their eggs and ignoring much more cruel facts. Korean’s hot dogs are just one example. But. We need eggs every week, but here are not so many choices. You have to find these free-range eggs. But we need new cars about every three years and here we have lots of alternatives.
How about ignoring of French wine, because they are torturing Gooses while they are living to get their leaver ready for foie Gras?
Or we have to be heroes only for local little chickens and it is enough to become famous animals rights activist all over HV and surrounding farm lands.
I don’t like those double standards. This chicken story looks like local commercial issue for me. Like someone is trying to get our attention for their product.

In regard to the comments about me not having many posts, I assure you that I am an HV resident and have been for almost a year now (I wouldn't know how to be a spammer even if I tried). I have been viewing posts on this site before I ever moved to HV. I guess you can say that I listen (read) more than I speak (write). I am certainly familiar with the "atmosphere" on the site from the posts that I have read over time and I personally don't see what was so terrible about my post for it to be so bad that I "introduced" myself with it.
I think some people read the content and didn't see anything related to Milton/HV and because it was the first post of a newly created user there was a guess that it could be an automated spammer. I.e. there are people out there that run automated programs that search/find discussion forums, create accounts, and post messages advertising or pushing certain things.

Maybe if you started off the first post with a small introduction saying you live in the area, have been reading the forum for awhile, and wanted to speak out about an issue that's important to you, people might not have rushed to conclusions.

But that's just my opinion. There's no rules or guidelines on what someone can or can't post on their first post. If someone has posted 1 message, or 1000 messages, their next posting should be weighed equally on it's own merits. Avoid the "I've posted more so my opinion means more" false thinking.

Maybe it's that people who have several previous posts, others have since gotten to know them, and might have a more open mind to hearing new issues from them. It's similar to how people might react to hearing an issue from someone new they just met for the first time versus how'd they'd listen to the same issue from someone they've known or have been friends with for a long time already. Subconciously you'll probably have a more open mind when listening to the person you already know. Is this the right thing to do? probably not in an ideal world, but I think it's partially human nature.

p.s. I should disclose that my Mom has free-range chickens and always drops off eggs for us to use and would prefer that we eat them versus store-bought eggs. But at the same time I still do eat eggs at restaurants, etc which are probably from chickens that have been caged. I'm not going to stop doing this.

 If I get my wife to "permit" me to do it again next year, I might put a 'donation' box to help buy future props/materials ;-) I'd like to be ambitous and make the haunted-garage eventually turn into a bigger haunted-house but I think that will take a couple years of negotiation with my better-half.

Going way off topic here, but Rick I hear there is this company called Mattamy who is selling new homes in the neighborhood, perhaps you should put out a really big donation box, and just pick up one of those. Good luck when you get to the design center and ask for boarded up windows and extra cobwebbing instead of web conduiting.
