They must be referring to the province striking down municipal by-laws against clothesline as more people want to hang their clothes on them when the weather is nice. Still, last I checked a front porch isn't a clothesline. I have a foldable clothesline in my back yard that's great to use when the weather's nice for towels, my kid's cloth diapers, some clothes but skivies - nope. If the dryer broke I'd hand stuff like that in the basement out of public view. It's just plain tacky to drape stuff over the front porch. Not sure what you can do.

LOL Wilton. I was thinking an anonymous note might be in order but wasn't sure what to write in it. I think offering them free use of a dryer or hand-write a coupon for a month of free dryer use at the nearest laundromat might just be perfect  .

300K townhouse is like entry-level in Milton. If anything you should EXPECT your neighbours to be hanging their clothes out on the railing. When 12 people live in one house it's hard to get your turn using the dryer.

If they don't have a backyard, where else are they going to dry their clothes?

That's the chance you take with townhouses in Milton. When my husband and I were looking to buy a house, we decided our max budget would be $400k. We saw some townhouses where kids toys were strewn all over the front yard, uncut grass, garbage cans on the front doorstep. That's when we decided to increase our budget price to $500k and get a fully detached.

Nothing like overextending yourself by 100K.

Thanks for worrying but we are not overextended. We're both employed fulltime in pretty decent paying professions. We're not doctors like you though

OMG please help!!

Do you have any advice on how to handle this ??

I just spent $300K to buy a new town house on Brassard Circle and it is really embarassing to have visitors
pointing out that one of the neighbours don't seem to be able to afford a dryer and have their clothes drying on the balcony
at the front of the house.

they don't have a back yard or balcony but come on.... THE FRONT OF YOUR BRAND NEW HOUSE???

Is there any thing which I can do about this because it really devalues the other property on the street including mine.

It is like really ghetto to have your underwear etc hanging on the front balcony of your new house!

I checked with the City and was told that with the new green energy act this is actually allowed.

I closed and moved in 3 months ago and don't want to sell up and move again because of this but these people seem to be doing it everyday since the weather got good.

Help!

Can we get a grip on reality here? Is it an eyesore sure but it devalues your home? Some one is being a bit of a drama queen aren't they? And you'd seriously move from a home you've lived in for three month. Heaven forbid if one of your neighbours let their dog drop one on your lawn, you'd have to leave town.

You called the town, its allowed, GAME OVER!

Too funny. I love that you think they 'can't afford a dryer'... haha

I have a back yard, so I'd probably use that, or my back balcony, but if I want to occasionally put stuff on my front balcony live and let live. Ontario basically banished any type of 'laundry line' bans (even affects condos that have bylaws) to promote 'green'.

Get green! And really, moving because of laundry -- thats priceless. I offer you 201K (I'm taking a 99K discount due to ghetto neighbours)

enjoy your new home and make friends with the neighbours. when it comes time to resell down the road, you'll have the relationship with them to ask them to remove their clothes when potential buyers come around.

Resign yourself to the fact that Milton is rapidly becoming the equivalent of a village in a third world country and it's only a matter of time before having livestock sharing your living space is the norm. Rusted cars up on blocks on lawns, paving over grass to accomodate the 6 cars for the 18 people living there, playing dodge the dog poo with your kids in the park, laundry on front lawns and porches...next up is the "do-your-washing-in-a-tub-on-your-front-porch-save-energy" (which continues to get more expensive no matter how much we cut back). Talk about putting the "village" into Hawthorne Village. Calling the Town is useless. The only thing they are will to enforce is parking infractions.

Build a TALL FENCE between you and your neighbour. That'll start the conversation :)

Why it is something extraordinary?
300K townhouse is most affordable, entry level free hold housing.
People with small income could afford it instead of renting, but they have to safe money.
Drying cloths like this saving it. With another hydro price increase coming...

Hydro is old name, BTW, it should be named as Windo or Solar, or maybe Dalto to represent wind and solar scam Dalton put on us.

LOL hilarious. You're complaining because you have ghetto neighbors living in entry-level town homes.

I wouldn't worry about it or be embarrassed.

Dude, he's complaining about a lack of class. Class has nothing to do with how much money is in your wallet or the price of your house. The fact that you think it does.....well...nuff said.

How does the clothes stay on the porch with all this wind? My garbage can was all the way down the street again this week.
