Looking for some help. I noticed that one shingle near the peak of my roof has blown off. The house is only 5 years old, thus outside of the warranty of 2 years with Mattamy and the original roofing company. I called Chouinard (the company who did the roof in the first place) and they wanted to charge me $250.00 + HST to replace the one shingle. Called Done right roofing (in Milton) and they wanted to charge me $200.00. I can't afford either price, and I don't know of anyone who can go up on the roof and fix it for me. Any suggestions of who I can call would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can always do it yourself.

Shouldn't have bought a Mattamy if you don't have deep pockets to fix these damn roofs, Hi-Velocity furnance, and crappy tankless water heater (at least the water heater is a rental).

Try Ollie's roofing. He may just charge you $80 or less for 1 shingle.

You cant afford $200? What happens if you need some emergency work on a vehicle, or your kid needs braces?

Thank you for your concern about my finances, but if I do need an emergency vehicle repair, I can cover it. I just feel to spend $200 to replace one shingle, is a bit extreme when I take into account the other posts I've read on this site regarding roofing issues, which suggests that I might have to redo the entire roof sooner then later, so I would rather put the money towards that.

definitely buy a pack of shingles and go up on your ladder. a couple of nails and a hammer and you're done in 15 minutes max.

If there is not exposed wood then it is not a big problem.

Anyways - don`t pay someone 200 bucks or more unless they also do some other maintenance on the roof. Re-sealing nail-heads and remove safety straps comes to mind. This should not add a penny to a 200 dollar plus fee.

Also, price also depends on accessibility. Some roofs are easier than others to get up on. That is also a factor in price.

Same thing happened to me after the wind/rain storm on Monday. I had 3 shingles down and about a 2' x 3' of exposed wood on my roof. I called Mattamy Warranty - and I was outside of the warranty period. Thus I was going to do the repair myself - on Wednesday I was going to buy the shingles - but just before I left I noticed a large water stain and one small water stain on the ceiling of my great room (16' ceilings). The largest water stain is about a 3' diameter and is a few feet away from the ceiling light. I ended up calling my insurance because I think the insulation is saturated up there. The spot that has the stain is dark grey in the middle with the yellow stain around the edges. I am assuming that I have to get the drywall on the ceiling cut out and repaired. I'll be calling some companies on Monday to get everything sorted. In the meantime I had Chouinard come on Thursday and repair the missing shingles. They removed about 15 shingles - the tar strip on the back of those shingles still had the plastic protective film on them. The installers who did my roof never removed them. Frustrating!

I'd be appreciative if there are any contractors here or if you know someone who can help do this job for me.

Conrad

That's pitiful.
