Nope. Gotta be Friday afternoon sometime. Wife is going away for the weekend with the kid, so I need to "spend time with the family" on Thursday. Plus I think there's something happening somewhere...

Busy 10-11, meeting someone else from the forum. Why don't you PM me another time on Friday and I'll meet you there. Deal?

Be weary, he has a habit of "forgetting" his wallet when bill time comes.

I was just reading the Champion and came across this tidbit attributed to Mr. Lambert:

"I can't control what council approves but I can control my own personal life"

Really Tony? Why couldn't you vote no to the increase, or voted with Mike and Rick M to defer the increase? Or were you too busy yakking with Councillor Huffman to pay attention to what was going on!! Remember, you do have a say in what council does!!

As for the control of your personal life, that just speaks for itself.

Just read the article in The Champion. No mention of the amendment put forward by Mike and I, no mention of who voted for or against the amendment despite it being a recorded vote. Printed a comment by Ward 7 Councillor Lambert ( did he get kicked off the Region without us knowing ?? Hey RickD did you lose your seat to him ? ) Anyways quoted Lambert who never said a word during the whole debate, but completely ignored anything Mike or I said in opposing the increase. The article implied that Zeeshan had been opposed to voting for the increase with no mention that he had in fact voted in favour, and to add insult to injury for Mike half of what was quoted has having been said by Zeeshan was in fact the comments of Mike. Just goes to prove you can't always believe what you read in the paper.

Wow, I'd be furious, sounds like The Champion should be called The Loser.

Wow. Must be training a new Council reporter. Christina Commisso did a great job, but moved on/up the Metroland food chain.

That column is a hoot! Combination of a new reporter trying to tiptoe through unfamiliar political waters, and council's best spinners at work. 12% increase???

I couldn't find the article on the internet Champion. Maybe the editor had second thoughts.

Mike/Rick M. - that column deserves a response in the Champion and a quiet chat with the new reporter.

They should've hired CompassLaura!
I couldn't find it in the on-line edition either.

The last line in the article raises some additional questions for me:

"Existing benefits, including pensions, will also continue."

Are we funding pension & benefits for council? If so, what benefits are covered and can we get details on the pension as well ... e.g., how much is the pension, when does it vest, and at what age and for how long (survivor benefits or just straight-up life?) can it be collected? Thank you.

Dear CJ ..lets be honest you want the councilman to buy you a beer or two you cheap f*#k.
Lets keep him Honest and make Z memorialize his answers/explanations/promises to the villager so we can all keep him honest instead of this tippsy pow wow at Rad brs where you size each other up ..he fears you more in this public forum than in person . IE more people observing yours conversation more honesty.

Think about it Bro.

As of 2002 members of council were placed on the same benefit plan as non-union employees, we contribute half and the town pays the other half of the premiums. As for pension we are with OMERS again we contribute half the town pays the other half. We are eligible to collect it at age 65, based on the current plan when I reach 65 my pension after 10 years service on Milton Council will be $1695.97 a year, Hope that answers your questions

Having just read the Champion story, they missed the part about Rick M. and Mike's motion. They also missed part of the context- a growing town, and an expanding council (3 new wards).

Exactly why the Champion should have hired you for the job! You know this council and the political goings on in town so well! I'm gobsmacked they didn't.
