Hi Miles:

In my post above, this is exactly what I meant by Direct Connection to Laptop, no router involved.

Also, the link you mentioned shows the speed between your roof antenna to their tower (think of it like a big cable from your house to their data center), its not the internet (public) speed you are getting.

Alright, here is the update..

I talked to Jon and then Tom (standard broad band), they upgraded the firmware of my antenna remotely and it did the trick. This is the speed I am getting now:

Streaming from your own server in the basement i.e., watching movies on your phone or tablet on the go, accessing all your docs, photos remotely etc etc

I have one :-)

Yea... I'm fairly certain that's not what most people use their connection for though...

I was stocked. Had their tech come over for installation.

No line of sight.

Bummer :(

What brand of router is everyone using with Standard Broadband? I understand that Cisco routers are recommended but I don't think everyone is using this brand. I myself have an Asus router.
Thanks

I have been using Netgear, and it was working very well for the first few months (Jun-Dec), but lately my speeds have been terrible. I have not seen double digit Down speeds since Xmas. Yesterday I cancelled and switched to Start (cable 30/2). Install is scheduled for Apr 4.

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/

Read up some reviews here. This is a site dedicated to home/soho environments and tests the relevant network equipment.

You should be able to narrow down a product that fits your budget nicely.

Pro tip: Cisco is rarely #1.

OK, so I also have Standardbroadband as a service. Not happy at all! My speed suppose to be 15Mbps but I keep getting 3-9Mbps.
I email them every month ( been with them before xmas) as I take pictures of the speed on their website. ( I test the speed on their website then use cellphone to take pic). All I get is antenna this, antenna that, we are doing this, we are doing that... I'm up to the point that I wish I was with bell, but since Bell has really low bandwidth here in Milton (new area) Im stuck with Standardbroadband for a while.
To all of you who have their service, I suggest you go to their website, go to Residential Services then click on support. Run their test and see if your actually getting what you are paying for. I'm my case, not even close.
They seem to be good people, but being nice isn't making my ISP faster!

Good luck.

Shop around, there is plenty of competition in Milton now (DSL and Cable)...

I too had an experience like Neighbourino that was eventually resolved (my service has been consistently at or above the 15mbps I subscribed too since then) but I can attest that the experience getting to a resolution was not pleasant.

I had the same experience at Neighbourino with speeds that were significantly less than what we paid for and was not impressed at all at their lack of trying to solve the problem.
