This again is with respect to the parking issue.

It's sad to see that one person on a street can complain about a car parked on a street which is not in their way or blocking their driveway and essentialy win in this democratic society where majority rules - something is wrong with this in my opinion.

My next question is,,,at which point does the town/authorities say enough is enough and it's viewed as harasement?

Hmm, We're not on your street and I haven't called the PA on our neighbours but let me tell you I have thought about it many times. We have the same old piece of crap cars parked in front of our house ever day for 3 hrs or longer throughout the day. It is so annoying to see someone elses vehicle outside your front lawn each and every day when they very well have their own driveway and garage to use. The worst is when they park in front on garbage days, one day they dragged our garbage in front of their house since they pulled into their driveway to turn around and they had the nerve to point at my mom (who was visiting and watching my little ones at the time) and at the garbage insisting that she clean it up. Yeah it's our garbage but you parked in front of our house then you dragged it over to your house so you clean it up!!!! Ok sorry that was a little bit of a rant!!!

How can it be viewed as harassment if you are abusing the system?

Don't blame someone else because you got caught with your hand in the cookie jar.

If you want the parking laws changed, follow the law and get the parking extended on your street. Until you get off your rear and attempt that, stop playing the victim.

I believe it becomes harassment when it impedes on your right to enjoy your property.

So whe we if and when we have friends over for an evening and we're constantly looking outside for the parking patrol which is preventing us form enjoying our evening and the rest of our property is this not a form of harasment?

Isn't my privacy also being compromised by our house or us being constantly monitored by a neighbour for potential parking infractions?

I agree your neighbour is an a*#hole (god I can't stand those kind of people) BUT the only thing you can do is have the by-law changed. I don't live there but I'd sign a petition. If you do that, get another going to get your neigbour tarred and feathered...haha.

No, because if it really mattered to you' you would move the cars after 3 hours then you would not have to worry!

You just do not seem to get the basic principle that your action (parking illegally) is causing a reaction (parking control giving a ticket). If you stop your Action you will not get the reaction. Move your cars around like everyone else does.

I hardly believe this is a quite as cut and dry as you say it is. There is your version, parking control version and the truth.

And parking control usually gets there a while after your guest and gives a bit more leway than the 3 hours. So your guests are probably parked there for 5-8 hours really, not just the 3. Your neighbours are probably sick of looking out their windows and seeing your cars infront of their houses.

Just move the cars around and relax.

Whether it still applies or not I am not sure..
but there is/was a by-law that you cannot park on any street from Nov. 14 - April 14 - due to snow removal and such.

At which point did I say we were breaking the law?

We really shoudn't have to move the cars if people are only visiting for dinner and drinks in the evening. Some tolerance is to be expected. I'll remember that the next time you have dinner guests over hows that or better yet did you want to come and move them for me?

It is as cut and dry as I say it is,,and there are several people on our street affected by this couple. Heck the Councillor I spoke even knows our street well and guessed who it was!

You have not been around our neck of the woods and not experienced what we have. Lately it has been absolutely ridiculous - one of me wife's friends came to visit yesterday within the hour parking patrol was there chalking her tires. A few weeks ago my sister was over and about 40mins later parking patrol was there chalking her tires. Another instance my father drove his car to my place and we went out together at 6am shortly after my wife called advised they were chalking my fathers tires.

How can we relax whenever someone comes over and within minutes our visitors tires are chalked and we're paranoid of getting tickets. Is it harasment when our friends no longer want to come and visit out of fear of getting a ticket?

And yes there is a point when it comes harassment.

C'mon people WHY DOES IT BOTHER YOU WHEN PEOPLE HAVE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OVER TO VISIT AND THEY'RE PARKED ON THE STREET FOR A FEW HOUERS - GET A LIFE.

Or are you just jealous cause you have no friends and family that want to come and visit you because you're so miserable and no fun to be around just like couple down the street from us

Excuse my ignorance...why do they chalk your tires? What does this mean?

And just to throw my .02 cents into this very heated debate; I believe 3 hours is a little too short a time, 5 hours would seem more reasonable a time to me. 3 hours is not enough time for some one to come over for dinner and relax etc.

We do not hold large parties or get togethers (of course that is because we have no room and we will in our new place!) How ever, if my parents lived in there they would have people over 2-3 times a week. It would be very annoying to have to call in (they have no computer)their friends license plates every time they were over and have to keep track of the # of times so they did not exceed the limit of 16 maximum (which I also find unreasonable).

Anyhow, relax everyone, the law is the law but we are not dealing with gman's crazy neighbour either who seems eager to cause trouble.

I wouldn't go as far as calling this harassment, but technically, we are not allowed to park on the road from like November to April. I am aware of that law and do respect it most of the time, but hell, just because laws are in place, it doesn't mean we have to follow them. The same people who support this law are also the same people who drive 55 km/h on Derry when the speed limit is 50 km/h, or are the same people who sell things online and don't report the profits to the gov't. Big deal.

I gotta come up with a device that bolts onto the bottom of the car, every couple of hours it raises the car and rotates the wheels a 1/2 turn without moving the car. Would make a million.
