I would call a pest control company to come in and take a look at the situation and get rid of them

You need to call a pest control company. PCO Orkin solved the ant problem in our previous house. Call them and get it dealt with professionally, you won't regret it.

I used a powder from home depot, it comes in a plastic container and you sprinkle the powder along the baseboards, etc.

Its non toxic to all pets, and it work great.

I would start by not leaving food all over your mom's basement. Then starve the cats until they start eating ants.

Be kind CJ, pest infestation is another leading cause of anxiety.

Get that household parameter defense bug killer stuff from home depot. Spray it around your baseboards, and they’ll be gone in a day or two.

In the spring spray it around the foundation, and between the cracks of your deck if you have one.

Chinese Insect chalk will permanently remedy this issue. Also effective on unwanted pets, wildlife and small children.

This is just so disgusting.

Check your foundation to see if you have cracks. This is where they might be getting in.

He's still smoking weed? I thought he was trying to stop.

According to a pest control website, it states:

An interior infestation involves the entire colony of ants establishing a nest inside your home instead of scavenging for food and returning outside. Ants, particularly carpenter ants, may build a permanent nest behind walls, near door frames, under windowsills, inside cabinets and behind appliances. Interior infestations are a more serious problem than exterior because of the structural damage the ants cause by burrowing in the wood to build their nest. As long as there is a sustained food source and the queen is thriving, the ants will continue to multiply throughout the house.

I guess he doesn't clean as thoroughly as he thinks he does.
