I would like to post our experience with Mr. Hedley Greaves.
First appointment:
We had to make it at 7:30am. It was a 15 minutes “consultation” meeting. He took our names, the lot information, and the mortgage pre approval document, and that was it. All that he said is “it seems like you guys are ok!”.
Second appointment (the closing date):
He called us to come and go over the purchasing agreement, the final mortgage agreement, and the closing cost. He was in a hurry, someone kept calling him on the phone (three times during our appointment). Hedley promised him that he will be 'there' in 10 minutes. He said this 5 minutes into our appointment with him!
Good thing we read our purchase agreement carefully! We noticed the following mistakes:
1-The Purchasing Agreement had spelling mistakes of both of our names (first and last names). You would think this is one of the most important documents that prove your ownership for the house, but no, he said that is not important (he just wanted us to leave).
2-After we corrected him on the above, he screwed up Francesca’s name and both our birthdates on the Deed for the house.
3-Ok, let’s say the names, birth dates are “not important”, the closing amount was not correct either. He had to confirm it with the Mattamy lawyer and the bank because he did not believe us that we have paid extra payments towards our upgrades (even though we showed him the receipts and the addendums from the design centre). To me it felt like he couldn't care less about us. Looking back on it, I am not surprised, he would be like that, especially when he is making alot of money from Mattamy clients and Mattamy posts his flyers in their sales office. I think I made my point here!
4-He was so rude in his conversation and did not help us with anything at all. He showed us the land layout without even knowing that the actual land that we got is mirrored from that layout that he got.
5-The bank monthly payments amount was wrong too. He was not aware that we adjusted that amount with a bank one month before the closing date. So, we had to correct the amounts on the contract with hand writing and sign beside each correction, which he was not too happy about. He said the correction is not important, but we insisted to do so because we know by now how meticulous he is!
Some other things I noticed about his office.
1-There is no computer in his office!
2-Piles and piles of dusty papers allover the place!
3-The only wall clock in his office was out of batteries (I think that was the case 5 yrs ago)
4-Not that it is important but I’ll say it anyways, He met us with the same noticeably ugly suite during the first AND second appointment
Overall, this was a horrible experience. I would never choose Hedley to be my lawyer ever again. I wouldn't want my enemies to have him as a lawyer. This B.S. (barely 30 minutes of his time) cost us $800, I never felt like I wasted that much money in my life. I think he mispelled his last name as well; it should match the kind of service that he provides to his clients.
Thanks "Mr. Grief"s,
