Question # 2 - is the Ecobee Thermostat still being offered? I only see reference to In-Home Display on that FAQ - nothing specific.

Anyway, since I have your attention - what is the out clause? Is there a fixed term/contract for the EcoBee? Cancellation fee etc?

#6 is the terms and conditions http://www.miltonhydro.com/peaksaver-plus-tc/

Yes. You'll see its the only option on the sign up form. The FAQ is from the OPA and is generic because it has to cover the program across the province. Milton Hydro is first to offer the ecobee.

My two cents based on my experience in the software industry would be to avoid Honeywell and stick with one of the other two.

I know nothing about the Honeywell smart thermostat. I’m sure it’s built well and works as advertised – it’s a solid brand with a great reputation. However, these guys are a hardware company at heart, not software. As a rule of thumb, companies that aren’t software shops tend to fail when they try to put out products that are software based. They simply don’t have the internal culture needed to meet the expectations most people have with software. They are slow to release new features, they don’t patch bugs in a timely manner, and they don’t handle internet security correctly.

There’s exceptions to every rule, and Honeywell very well could be one, but seeing that the price is the same I’d stick with Nest/Ecobee as they at least have a track record of making good smart thermostats.

Yeah - read that; pretty vague language.

Well my first experience with Peaksaver was booking the morning off for them to come from 8am-12pm, confirming the appointment, and then no one showing up, and their customer service being unable to reach the contractor....awesome, waste of a morning.

I had an appointment for yesterday afternoon, and the contractor called to say he was swamped and asked to change to today (as he said he only had one appointment today!) So far, no show again today. Not a huge issue as I work from home, but I'd be some pissed if I'd taken time off work.

i do really like the new ecobee's with the remote sensor where you can have the HVAC controlled from the warmest/ coldest room in the house rather than the default location which isn't always the best.

I know honeywell has one as well but they're both pretty pricey at this time

Yes. John, the installer, was a super nice guy - but run off his feet. He does on average 20 installs a day. Mine took 30ish minutes, and I didn't need any modifications. I had the proper wiring in place already.

First impressions are pretty good. Mobile app is cool. Some neat features that work well for me (vacation mode, remote temp monitoring).

And it was free!

I use the ecobee and it is awesome. I got it installed free when I signed up for a promo with JustEnergy. Easy to use and set, plus you have the added bonus of jacking the house to 40 degrees when you aren't home but your loved one is.

My ecobee thermostat has been keeping the temperature higher than the settings for a few days now. Anyone else experienced the same? Right now, for example, the heat is set for 16, the house is 17.5, and the heat is running (and has been for the past hour?)

Do you have smart recovery enabled? When is your next schedule transition?

I'm going to be a very very late adopter to this tech. I can't see the point to it outside of it being new and cool and another reason to have a cell phone to thumb around with.

I'm sure my day to day routines are quite similar to anyone who works. You sleep at night, you get up, get ready for work, go to work, come home, rinse and repeat.

So I already have a programmable thermostat that knows my routine... so why is this tracking software needed exactly?

From what I've seen the best case scenario savings these things boast take a long time to make it worth while.

I do, and it's scheduled to go to 19 at 3pm. Seems odd though, as it transitioned to 16 at 8:30am, and has never really cooled down.
