depends on what you consider relatively inexpensive!

We got ours from Convertible Air for about $1800; also I have a window air conditioning unit - relatively brand new available for free to a good home!

when purchasing A/C, do you have to go through Applewood Airconditioning? I remember seeing a sticker on mine that says it voids the warranty if anyone else installs it other than Applewood. I believe Applewood A/C is one of the distributors for Carrier.

You do not have to go through Applewood. Yes going with someone else does void the warranty with Applewood but most companies will pick up the warranty.

We went with Convertible Air they were by far the cheapest and had all sizes and brands.

Keep in mind that Convertible Air is selling older units from last year (possibly refurbished) at 10 seer which is now obsolete. The minimum now is 13 seer. If you guys need a quote for your home, I can help you guys. Plus I take over the furnace warranty. You can PM me or call me at 647-402-3341.

Yes Covertible has 10 seers but they also have 13 and up. They have been in business for 30 years so I am confident in their ability. They have assumed my furnace warranty and I get 10 years on the air conditioners compressor plus I get the cover for the unit. Price wise they were the way to go for us. My best advice call around and get some quotes. Decide what you need for you.

hey, thanks for the help everyone.

I just purchased a 3.5 Tonne, 13 seer from Convertible Air. Great service, knowledgable and nice people and a very good price.

If you want efficiency and a environmentally friendly A/C then go for a SEER 14 rated airconditioner (EER rated A/Cs are more acurate in displaying their efficiency but good luck finding a place that will advertise that spec). Anyway, I ended up getting a Carrier SEER 14 R410A (PureOn) A/C for $3100.

Yeah, not cheap but cheapest out of all the places in the yellow pages except for GM AIR. For some reason they were able to knock off $800 off the price everyone else was quoting. No idea how they can do that, didn't want to take a chance to go with 'em cuz I've been shafted in the past when dealing with "discount" dealers.

Up to you,

Tom G

Wow....you paid a lot - if you don't mind me saying so!!! I have a 2250 sq.ft home and just bought a 2.5 tonne 14 Seer Puron AC unit and paid $2300.00 INSTALLED! This included the brackets, a winter cover and a digital thermostat. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. I just had it installed on Monday - it is sooooo quiet you can't hear a thing!

Feel free to PM me if you want the contact info.

One of my best friends for over 20 years is in the air conditioning biz. He just went out on his own after working with his dad for 15 years so he's hungry for business. He did all the HVAC work at the guitar world.
Here's his contact info:

Rob Greco
cell 647-502-7872

Tell him Cliff referred you and he'll give you a special price.
