Just wondering for those who have energy star homes, did mattamy install a dimmer switch in the dining room? I know that previous phases (not energystar) have the dimmer switch. But now all the energy star homes come with CFL lightbulbs, and I know that you're not supposed to use a dimmer switch for CFL bulbs.
We have our PDI on Tuesday so I want to know if I should say something or not.

Thanks,
Conrad

We had dimmers in the dining room and master bedroom. There are dimmable DF bulbs so no problems putting in dimmers.

Thanks Marc,

So I should expect to see them at my PDI. Currently they just have the "Decora Switches" all through the house. Maybe they didn't want to put the dimmers in now cause of theft?

Before the PDI they put in "normal" incandescent light bulbs and an old thermostat (not the programmable) due to theft. Everything gets switched a few days before closing.

we have an energy star home and we have 2 dimmer switches... one in the dinning room and one in the master bedroom (embiance. i guess  ) they left the incadecents in those fixtures since the regular CF lights don't work with dimmers. when i pointed out to the mattamy warrenty rep that dimmable CF lights were available in stores (for ~ twice the price of the regular ones) he just said "oh, we don't carry those"... i let it go, but plan to bring it up at our next "inspection" we were only the second engergy star house that closed... so i gave them some time to work on the little details. i have yet to purchase the dimmable CF bulbs.. since i'm still hoping to get some from mattamy :) (4 of them add up to ~$50) ... mostly on princible.

so the reason for my dribble is to get to you to ask for the dimmable CF's at your PDI.. :D

We received CFL's all throughout the house except for the Master Bedroom (dimmer switch) and the livingroom/diningroom (dimmer switch).
In order to comply with EnergyStar standards the house has to have 75% of the bulbs as CFL's. So they went over the 75%.

Sorry I just saw this today! Our dimmers are also in the master bedroom and dining room (which is really our living room).

The move was memorable. I will never do it again! Since I work in income tax I ended up working the morning of the move and then took the afternoon off and Saturday off. Our moving company arrived an hour late, charged me for that hour and never wrapped the furniture with plastic and/or heavy clothes which I had been told they would. I paid the movers, did not tip them after my husband had to help becasue some things were "so heavy" and said I would take it up with their boss. Note that when I wrote out the check I did not know that my furniture had not been wrapped properly since I cam home at the tail end of the move. Also, this mover was moving our furniture only, we had moved everything else.

Anyhow, when I phoned there was nobody there so I stopped payment on the cheque. I phoned again Monday am and finally heard back in the afternoon. He got a little nasty when I told him I had stopped payment on the cheque. I explained I was quite willing to pay for the job, but I did not get what I was told I would get. Anyhow, he said he would check into it and call back. He ended up calling back with his tail between his legs, apologizing profusely for not doing what was quoted and took off 20% of the bill. This mover was recommended by a friend who had no problem with their move and is a member of the BBB, so you never know what you might get!

Anyhow, with the the tax season being what it is at the end of the month, I really have not had time to unpack at all. I have boxes all over still! This month will be the month to organize!!!

Hey Woodclan,

Were your ducts clean when you moved in? Ours are full of dust, drywall, stones, and small scraps of wood. I thought Mattamy was supposed to have the ducts cleaned out for us.

I think my husband said they looked good. I will have to double check with him though because I remember him saying he was going to stick the vaccuum hose in and see but that may just be him double checking.

They are supposed to have the ducts cleaned... if the job wasn't done (or done poorly) just let Mattamy know and they should get a crew in ASAP to clean them.
