With our year-end approaching, we decided to have a home inspector inspect our house. We used Martin Sweeney of A Home Inspection Company Inc. Tel: 905 691 7120. Martin was punctual and extremely thorough. Very nice guy. He provided a complete report with digital pictures and all of the items listed as they should be written on the Tarion report. He found many items that we would have otherwise missed. It was well worth the money.

I'm in Phase 13 and also had an inspection done. My inspector exposed numerous building code violations.

I know, it's scary all of the things that are not done properly. I'm so glad we hired someone. We didn't for our first house and the only things we wrote down were cosmetic. This time we have three pages of items!

The Mattamy guys are really good. I had one come by recently to fix a few items on my list, and confirm some other things. Build a rapport with them, and they got tons of hilarious stories to tell.

It's still a pain in the ass having to have people come fix things, but sometimes it's not Mattamy's fault per se, but mostly, it's the inspectors who aren't doing their jobs and inspecting certain things that have to meet building code requirements. These guys get yelled at a lot by angry homeowners who can never be pleased no matter what, but really, some friendliness and understanding goes a long way for these guys to go the extra mile for you.

I agree that being nice goes a long way. There's really no point in getting angry if you want good service. I am actually very happy with Mattamy's customer service but I am also glad we hired an inspector to point out the things that we never would have seen. We've also had the Mattamy guys come out a few times and they were always willing to help.

Hi all,

Can you give me some examples of major defects found by the home inspector and otherwise owner would never have a chance to find by himself. Does Mattamy recognize these defects or not?

Thanks

Mike

One of the things that were found with our house is two of the I-beams in the basement were shimmed up but not secured. They should either be welded in place or secured with concrete. The shims were just stuck under the I-beams ready to come loose. One was done properly and the other two were not done.

Just an update. We had about 30 items on our year-end report and the Mattamy guys fixed almost everything, no questions asked. There were just a couple of things they didn't do but they weren't that big of a deal anyways. I'm really happy with the service.
