if it's a new home your best bet to go with Bell or Cogeco. Bell offers 6 months free service, if you contact your Mattamy CSR they can get you in touch with the Bell guy.
Bell has FTTH service and I had 125/125 with unlimited internet... that was awesome. After you are through with the free service then you can really start shopping around. We stuck with Bell. Wife likes the phone service ($35) and I ended up talking Bell down to 25/25 service with unlimited bandwidth for $65. Works for us

Don't listen to this person.

Start.ca from day 1. Don't fall in to the cogeco/bell trap.

6 months service with no contract to continue using? How is that a trap?

Unless you the trap is you feel an obligation to stick with them??

There's a reason why they offer that. It's because after the 6 months is up you need to call them to haggle for a new deal. If you forget then boom-your bill skyrockets. Also, to cancel and switch providers is a pain - involves scheduling the switch, messing around with modems and whatnot, calling people, it sucks.

Before you know it you're just sticking with the lame provider who gave you a 6 month free hit, and suddenly you're paying $35 a month for a home phone line like the sucker they thought you were.

Better to just do it right from day 1 and not bother with all this screwing around. I've been there. I've made the mistakes. Never again.

^ this is correct. There is a guy on Red Flag Deal forums who can get good deals on Bell. He basically said you will have to renegotiate after the promo period, but there is no contract. He said to call back at that point and he would try to find another deal....this does not work because you are no longer a new customer.

Anyways, we did it and for 6 months we had 50 mbps service, 2 tvs hooked up and one step up from basic channels for about $80 a month. I only did it because my wife was going on mat leave. When the promo ended, and they started charging for everything and for rentals of equipment, and it ended up being around $150 per month. When I tried to negotiate, all new deal the deals I could get were only available to new customers, and there was a lot of BS tactics used by the sales guy. We ended up paying more but got the bill down to a lower amount, until the amount we were billed increased and changed for every month after that. We ended up having to call every month which was a huge waste of time. The TV service was as bad as all the others even though the 50 mbps service was definitely fast.

But we just cancelled and went back to Start where we have been very happy.

Bell / Cogeco offer much higher speeds than the resellers
If you do not need high speed and 25 or 50 mbps is all you want then Teksavvy is cheapest in town

I looked up start.ca but they don't seem to accept the new address in their search, or no service comes up for that address. Has anyone from HVS been able to get service with them? Also, looks like their fee is $50/month no matter which internet option you choose, is that their base price? Is the service reliable?

Call them. They have some very friendly English-speaking people standing by right now to help you.

You wouldn't have 4 people recommending an unreliable provider in this thread.

I'll also add Start is one of the few providers that always amaze me at how easy it is to get through and talk to a person. IIRC, after selecting which department you want to speak with its a couple rings away from an actual person. I don't think I've ever been on hold when I've called them.

Have to agree, the customer service is a breath of fresh air. Not like calling pizza pizza or Rogers and speaking with "Donald" or "Mike" from India.
