not sure why K and C taxes are higher, comparatively you are going to pay $2k every year as taxes as compared to Milton.

Do you live there now? If not, move. I love Guelph, I grew up there, but the house prices still aren't as crazy as Milton. If you bought in Milton 6 years ago then you can easily sell and buy something nicer in Guelph.

Home prices might be somewhat higher in Guelph, if at all, but being a university town your investment will unlikely ever devalue but only increase in future. Personally, I often wish we had purchased our home in Guelph rather than Milton 6 yrs. ago. We love Guelph.

Yes all places do have not so nice places but Cambridge and Kitchener actually has people begging for money everyday! A lot of them. I do feel the area will get cleaned up as the Cities grows but there is a alarming amount of pan handlers asking for money. Commonly seen at traffic lights, local malls, outside of Chapters, dollarama...

I have yet to see panhandlers in that area at all... Mind you there is only 1 I can think of in Milton area either

Milton only has that one guy who hangs out at harvey's I don't consider him a panhandler as I do not believe he begs for money. If he does he is not aggressive in his begging. The people in Milton know him and they take care of him. He is a kind man who chooses to live on the street for some reason. He does not bother people
Mr.Peppermint wrote:
Your post sounds pretty naive since Dollarama is not the kind of place an intelligent panhandler would hang around

Naive? Intelligent panhandler?? What ever buddy!

Take a trip to The Cambridge or Kitchener Mall and pay attention to the people who use the mall. It is not a mall that you want to leave you teen child shopping at. Waterloo on the other hand has a very nice Mall similar to Maple View in Burlington. It's nice clean, no one begging for money when you enter or exit the mall.

Mr.Peppermint wrote:
BS on Cambridge mall
Really do you live in KW, how often do you go to these malls? Last time I was at the Cambridge mall some sketchy guy was walking around the food court with a security guy following him. Next time you go to the mall look around you, tell me what you see. Tell me if it's a mall you want your teen child shopping at. I live here I know, when my teen child wants to go shopping with girlfriends I drive them the extra distance to the Waterloo Mall.

Mr.Peppermint wrote:
Kitchener (Fairview) I would be more worried about drugs, hookers & robbery than I would about panhandling (those cheap apts are like skid row)
Kitchener mall also has very sketch people in it, and that old lady bum with the fake hunch back and cane who begs for money in the parking lot. She never goes in the mall.

Please move to KW region live here a few months then tell me what you see. I have been living here since November and this is what I have noticed. Someone is asking for views so I am posting my views.

Mr. Peppermint If you frequent Cambridge watch the center island when you drive past Water Street/Hespler road intersection. Drive with your eyes open, you will be surprised what you see in Cambridge! Shop with your eyes open, and once again you will be surprised.

Will you make money on your home here in Kitchener, I truly believe you will. Will Kitchener/Cambridge clean up their streets I really hope they do cause I pay a lot of taxes for a subdivision home, I would think some of these taxes would go toward policing. The area that we chose to live in has very high taxes and our community comes with lots of rules and regulations, I did not expect to see panhandlers.

Kitchener is basically just a shittier Milton, and that's saying something.

I wouldn't say Kitchener is shittier, it just has some really bad area's. I live in an area that far surpasses any place in Milton. The community that we live in is very nice, something that can not be found in Milton. The area where we live has lots of rules and regulation to help keep it nice looking. The city has made all the builders follow strict guide lines, we have extra wide streets, sidewalks on both side of the streets. Really nice low lamp post, kind of village looking. Walking trails that are plowed in the winter. Paved trails that lead to old historical barns and landmarks that are open to walk around and see at all times. We are not allowed to have a second kitchen in the basement, not even a rough in, thus deterring basement apartments. You are not allowed a paved driveway, all driveways must be finished with curbs and interlock or aggregated stone. No prefab builder front steps and crappy builder stones, all front steps must be a large stone or custome patterned concrete step. Every house is allotted 5 armor stone from the builder and a crazy amount of tree shrubbery and grasses, all professionally landscaped. All homes come standard 10 foot ceilings! When you drive into our community you can see the difference, this is no Mattamy or Heathwood subdivision. I think Milton needs a few community like this. So far I have found 4 communities like this in Kitchener I am sure their are more just not sure where they are, as I am still new to the area. Waterloo is a very nice place, with lots of nice area's to live. We only seen one nice upper class area in Cambridge it was a pocket of homes from the 1800's that are Huge and must be expensive in Blair Area by Landon Hall.

Mattamy is moving into the Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo area, they will be providing some nice new clean communities. I am sure they will change the demographics of all three area's and rid some of the Panhandlers.

That community in Milton would be $1.5-2m and out of reach for most everyone. At that price point, people say why not just get the acreage in the country. Doesn't make sense to live in surburbia at that price point.

Your old house in Milton would list from the builder just under $1m with no nice lot, no upgrades, no appliances, no fences etc. Its nucking futs.

It's all about perspective. 20 years ago, someone would have said the same thing about an $800K house. But over time, you slowly get used it.

These communities are not cheap in Kitchener either. That's my point, there are some very nice area's in Kitchener it is not "Shittier" then Milton just different.

I know we made a mistake selling that home, I see how the neighborhood has grown in price, it's crazy! But we did enjoy country life, I miss the wood stove and having no window coverings was a bonus. Just pure sunshine all day in the house. That part of my life has ended and here we are back in the city. :)

Are you saying it's different because of the increased shittiness?

Kitchener is like the fat cousin who eats all the mashed potatoes at thanksgiving. Nobody likes that cousin.
