What is everyone going with?

We need HDTV, phone and internet.

I've called both places to get quotes. I'm leaning towards cogeco due to pricing, but I've heard to go with bell.

Pickup a Mac mini and plug it into your shiney hdtv.

And decouple yourself from programing schedules, and crap filler.

Pick up an HDDVD or BluRay for your movies.

Okay seriously over zealous here, but my wife and I cut cable 2 years ago, and haven't looked back. We buy our TV series on DVD and spend less per year then we would on an expensive cable package. If we don't like something we resell it or trade it in.

If it is something new we rent it, or download a few episodes to try it out.

We do own an HDDVD player and content is slowing rolling out for it, like Heroes, and a lot of the Discovery HD stuff like Planet Earth (I'm still wiping drool off the screen after that one, it's just so shiny.)

Now what we don't do is sit down, turn the TV on, and drain hours away watching "whatever is on."

Now we use that time for all sorts of more interactive things, reading, talking, playing games, getting out doors etc.

I realize that my response doesn't fit the question of bell vs cogeco, but I still recommend trying it out.

I'll be going Cogeco for all my services too when we move, not a fan of Bell.

So my fiance is really big into sports.. so he bought an HDTV for our new house. So we're debating whether to go with Cogeco or not...

I think Bell offers more for sports

Cogeco has a sports pack comparable to Bell. We have the Cogeco bundle (phone, internet, cable). We chose it because:

1.) I REALLY REALLY don't like Bell (long story)
2.) The Cogeco bundle was cheaper
3.) The internet is 3 times faster
4.) There are things I like about satellite, but I don't like the aesthetics of the dish against the side of my house.
5.) Did I mention I REALLY REALLY don't like Bell

This is why we really need allacart tv services, where you really pick and pay for only what you want. Forcing on us that 02-60+ zone and saying thou must bundle your content is monopolistic.

True, but those rules could be adapted and changed while your already tweaking the system if you opened it up to alla carte content. I just won't return to cable in its present state.

That may be the current state, and I will admit I am in the minority, my state and opinion are far from unique, and as iptv offerings improve, people like me will increase.

Cable companies will need the flexibility from the CRTC or else they will lose revenue to the players who compete in the online market place

I don't want grass roots changes, I want good old fashion capitalism driven changes, and they will happen in good time, or the cable companies will sink.

Commercials are killing TV for me. I know without them my favourite shows wouldn't be able to stay on the air, but with the amount of product placement in TV shows now a days, it's like I'm watching an hour of commercials with 40 minutes of it being entertaining and not the same 30 spots over and over again. (side note: what's with every single character in a TV show using a Mac? That's fiction if I ever saw it!)

Also, having satellite radio has also spoiled me. I can't listen to regular radio at all now.

You've now opened a can of worms .

I use both equally at home and at work, but it's always fun listening to these debates. Here's a great article I read yesterday:

One very real rebuttal to that post, is that I can't use a Zune on my damn mac, I want one, a brown one, or a halo 3 one. Especially after Apple screwed the pooch with that iTouch product.

*No bluetooth
*Crippled Calander
*Crippled Contact Manager
*Crippled Storage Capacity for a Video Enabled Device
*Price not index against Canadian Dollar (no paid for 3 months ago on this product)
*No WiFi (or bluetooth see first bullet) sinking
*No video in wifi DL store.

The device is now as expensive as an iphone, and a whole lot worse. Any many of the reasons it was worse (crippled software) were completely unnecessary when less crippled version exist for iphone.

After the press conference I was soooooo ready to buy one I sold my iPod and preordered it like a good fanboi. After the reviews and a cold shower I cancelled my order. Now if Zune had a mac client I would have bought it as it is comperably featured and priced with a iPod Classic, but does do wifi sinking and radio. But it doesn't so like a good fanboi I bought an iPod phatty. (also priced poorly against the USD, but I didn't much feel like driving to buffalo to buy it when I had no music to listen to in the car ;P
