Ya, they do seem to be out and about more now, especially on Friday and Saturday nights!!

Last week, our friends were over visiting (and we only have a single car garage, so can't park more than our car in the driveway), and people who visit for a couple hours have never had a problem before. We've been here for almost 2 years now. Sure enough, their tires were chalked and they got a ticket cause there were there for more than 3 hours. But, when visiting on a Friday night, how would you be there less than 3 hours!

I argued it with the town, and they said next time to go online and ask for a parking exemption, but really I thought that would be for an extended or overnight stay, not for dinner and a movie at our place!

I made my complaint known too, because 2 weeks ago when our drive way was being paved by Mattamy, people were allowed to park on the street (no problem!). However, they were still supposed to follow the traffic rules. Yet, I'm pregnant and walking a block or two to my house because there is no spot on the road, and a bunch of people are parked right in front of my house where there is NO PARKING!!!

I complained then at the town, and told them there was no way I was paying a ticket for a friend visiting when NO ONE was ticketed the week before!

Beware of them people - even if you just have friends over for 3 hours!

Laurie

And what was their response?

if parking enforcement is anything like Peel/ Mississauga. They only come and ticket you if someone calls and complains about you. They should not be out randomly, other then if they see someone blocking a fire hydrate.

We had the biggest problem with one person on our street in Mississauga calling on a nightly basis, to complain my bumper was over the sidewalk. It was a pain, there was nothing we could do on the street, other then go fight the tickets and get them bumped down a few $$$.

That is when i found out they don't go out randomly.... But maybe Halton parking enforcement is different.

And eventually the solution to Wyl's problem was to get a petition out to all the neighbours for either 15 hour street parking, or allow residents to have boulevard parking-where you can park on the city/town's easement on the other side of the sidewalk.

The street ended up getting the boulevard parking. :)

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I can't feel sorry for you. I traded a living room for double driveway (Newport II) to avoid that situation so I'll be sure to call parking enforcement if someone parks in front of my house.

the issue was, when i parked in my driveway between, the street and the sidewalk, "boulevard parking" my car would sometimes be over the sidewalk... but calling if someone is parking in front of your house on the street for more then 3 hours, is being a little bit of a "jerk"

Milton councillors voted down the parking dept. request to make boulevard (driveway between sidewalk and road) parking illegal. You are allowed to park there in Milton.
Parking enforcement has only been done in Milton if someone calls to complain. At least it has up until now. Maybe they changed that. They should. I get very annoyed at people parking in front of my house all the time. Especially when their driveway is empty.

In response to the ticket when I told the town I wasn't paying it, it was waived. I did not have to pay the ticket because my complaint was logged about people parking in front of my house, and yet nothing was done about it.

Also, you have to remember that not everyone has the luxury of trading a "living room" for a double car garage. Semi's, towns, and most 36' lots don't give you that option unless you can afford the corner units. And, though you may have lots of parking in your driveway now, the day will come on a holiday or special occassion where you too will have someone parking on the street.

We intend to call with our info. from now on, even if it's for just 3 hours.

Laurie

When we bought our house, Mattamy gave us 'Welcome to Milton' information. In it it stated that no overnight parking is allowed from November to April. Perhaps this is why people are getting tickets?

that's right, everyone got that information...it's amazing how many people thought that they didn't mean it or it didn't apply to them.

It also amazing that to expect people to obey bylaws is now considered being a jerk.

I hate that a large lefarge truck is very often parked in front of my house but i dont call enforcment. HOWEVER!!! some people have gotten in the habit of parking on yates practically into the Hutchinson intersection and I almost got in an accident yesterday because of it. I will now be calling every time i see a car parked blocking the view on yates there as I don't feel like seeing an accident there.

I'd say calling parking control on people who constantly park in front of your house for hours, instead of in their own empty driveway would be justified. Or in the middle of intersections for the safety of others. We can perhaps call the later 'Neighbours', maybe not quite the former, but still justified.

I think the term 'jerk' is just being reserved for those types of people who'd call parking control just for the sake of calling parking control. Those types of people are the ones who'd be like 'They're 2 minutes over their 3 hour limit-come now.'

Considering I was at Kelsey's by the 401 last night with twins in a double stroller, and about 4 different people asked if they could help us, I'm sure there's more people we like to call 'Neighbours' in Milton, rather than jerks. :) And these people did not work there-they were patrons enjoying their meals, willing to take a second to help.

That's never happened in Mississauga before, btw.

Perhaps someone could post the link for the extended parking on the Milton website? It would be neighbourly.

That is the kind of thing that really annoys me. People parking too close to the intersections. There is a law against that, but unless we phone and complain the parking control people will drive right by it.

I am north phase 1 and received a ticket a month ago (Late September or early Oct) for parking my car overnight on the road and, in theory, I have no problem with it. I did break the bylaw.

However.....in the past 4 1/2 years I have never rec'd a ticket and have done this many time in the past. So have many, many others. I phoned to ask why....they said...somebody complained....the time the ticket was issued....3AM! - I was not blocking anything and parked on an extra wide road.

So......3 things..

1. Can somebody tell me the number to call at 3AM to gain parking enforcement? I could not find it.

2. Laws are typically only court upheld if they are enforced perpetually and equally across a society. For one person to get a ticket and other cars not to is not equal enforcement. Either enforce the law or not...make a choice.

3. I now make sure the cars are in the driveway.
