Well, that seems way to expensive!

Like we said, the place in Oakville we were looking at had a 10 yr warranty on the vacuum canister itself, it's made in Canada, we were going to upgrade the vacuum head and accessories for a steel roller, and hopefully get the vacpan installed, all for about $800 total (tax and installation included).

I doubt whoever Mattamy has install it will warranty it for 10 years, plus, at $1400, it's crazy (which is exactly why we didn't get it installed by them when we moved in, we always said we'd do it later).

Plus, the unit we were getting does homes up to 4000 sq ft, so it's more than powerful enough for most Mattamy homes.

four our amesbury... 1130sq ft... they want 263 to extend it to garage, 1324 for the unit, and 287 for a kick plate...

crazy! even though we're not getting the unit anymore we're still getting it extended to the garage.

We were looking around and it seems like it's a few hundred cheaper for a better accessories package (steel beater bar, 3 way switch on the handle, crush proof hose, and more suction power) I like the idea of being able to pick my own stuff and actually be able to test it out... if Mattamy had had it in the DC I may have gone with it if I could actually test it out... man this is tough!

definately get them to extend it to the garage. it's way quieter and keeps the dust out of your house :D
and i would also wait and purchase your unit after close. you can save money and have the choice of any unit you want.

lovin' my central vac,

Central Vac is great-- my dad installed it after we moved in -- he insisted and now we love it - we got the new Beam one which is super quiet-- I think it cost about $800-1000 -all in not including installation which my dad obviously did for free- but it was worth -

Got it at the Vacuum store in Pickering - Whites Rd &401 -- the parents live there thats why it was convenient for us -- but my parents have had their beam central vac for like 15-20 yrs & it had never broken down-- plus cent vac increases the value of your house too!

Just discovered Mattamy Central Vac Cheappo.
In rough-in version they are not doing it as all normal builders.
As result the only second floor is working, and if you want first floor, you have to run pipes from the basement to the garage at your own.
Of course they didn’t tell us about it clear and loud in the design center.
If I would know about this crap in advance, I at least would be able to save pictures from construction to know what is behind of the drywall.

You don't need pics of it "behind" the drywall, because they leave the "pipes" out so you can see them.

It's actually quite easy. My hubby just ran the one from the basement into the garage, and connected them both up there to our central vac (that he installed himself - pretty easy, and he's not even a "do it yourself" kinda guy).

The guy at Milton Vacuum sells the pipe pieces individually for installation and whatnot, so you don't end up with "wasted" pieces that come in a kit. He was also very helpful and gave him a few tips for installing it.

Good Luck (it really isn't that bad!)

So, for those who got the "rough in central vac" upgrade, what exactly did they do?

Thanks
Mike

edit: Whoops just realized that the upgrade was actually to move it to the garage.

Thank you, Laurie, for more info. I hope it will helps, plus Mattamy is coming next week again to fix our 60+ items list and they told me to ask their rep how to run pipes and cables. It does not look like the easy one for me. We have two intakes at the first floor on the walls, plus one at the top in the middle of basement and it is blocked by the air duct. In the garage it is single pipe from the top and here is no basement under, only drywalls and lots of storage shelves on them, which I made next week after closing.
I installed all home appliances and fixed some small Mattamy issues by myself.
But this one is driving me nuts.

I have got 4 different quotes to install my central vac. Here is what I have asked all of them to do:
    Hang vacuum in garage
Put one outlet in garage for car cleaning
    Put one outlet in basement
Hookup 2 outlets on 1st floor
Hookup 1 outlet on 2nd floor
Pipes, wire and outlet faceplates are included in the quotes.

Highest was $700 and lowest was $180. Woo..... see the difference.... I have gone with Mike who quoted me $180 which includes all the fittings, pipes, wires and faceplates. His phone number is 647-885-4406. When I saw him doing the pipping, I saw myself saving 2 days and many trips to Home Depot. He did an excellent job. I am happy with the results.

This unfortunately happens.

If the vac pipe actually ends up inside the duct work, it will need to be moved as that the pipe is not rated for being inside ductwork.

If the vac pipe it just above the duct and not actually inside it, then the pipe should be moved appropriately so it can be accessed. If it cannot be accessed, it's quite useless.

If you need assistance with installing your central vac, please let me know. I do this quite a bit and keep the van fully stocked for installations.

And Mr. $180 up there is roughly the same price that I would install most homes for too.
