Hi Diane,
Our's too is a Shady Glen and it's 2.5 ton for a Shady Glen/Pottington. We called the one GregoryL posted here ;) called Convertible Heating and Airconditioning. They quoted us $1586/00 with lifetime compressor warranty and you can choose from Lennox,Amana or Keeprite. They have a special going on now, so you may want to have a look at it.

Well....If you pay Mattamy for Air Conditioning, Mattamy then pays Applewood for air conditioning, and they install it at your house right?

If you wait until AFTER closing, and approach applewood directly, they'll give you a lower price than Mattamy's price. So question is why would anyone want to purchase the AC with Mattamy?

I'm not saying Applewood is the best choice, the one Trini just posted sounds good, just using this as an example.

We also want to purchase A/C after we move in SEPT.
since it will be outside the prime season, We might get a better rate
but a group buy might be better as well.

I think for all those who are closing Sept and later should consider waiting till then to get a good group deal from an Airconditioning Company.
I'm sure they will cut a good deal ;) for them to continue sales during off season.

Just wondering, does the installation incluse mouting the unit to the side of the house or are the rails and all that extra?

If i recall properly from when we went at the home show
they install the units and take over the furnace warrenty.
(installation outside mounted or not)

I wonder if the A/C from mattamy for my house that closes in Feb /06 will be the SEER 13?

I personaly want the highest SEER I can get. Sure I may only save 10 bucks a month and have to fork out 300 or 400 more upfront, but if it helps the environment and may add to my resale value later, I will do it.

My cousin owns a Heating/air conditioning company in Markham. I may just buy from him. The problem will be getting someone to install it. A friend of mine upgraded their air and gave me their old A/C unit which was bigger and better than mine. No one would touch it with a 10 foot poll because if it does not work, they do not want to be responable for it. Sounds like a cop-out!

My understanding from my cousin is that the only thing that is given up is the warranty on their install service.

For example. If you get a new muffler on your car from Speedy or someone you may have a lifetime warranty on the muffler, but only 90 days on the install. If you get someone else to go and do something else to your exhaust system, since the original work done by Speedy has been changed, they will not honour their 90 day install warranty, but the lifetime on the muffler will still be there.

My cousin is in the business and this is just a huge scare tactic. As long as whoever installs your A/C has their ticket punched and all their certs, the hardware warranty of your furnace will not be affected, it will just be the installation warranty. Alot of the time if there is a problem with the furnace or A/C it is due to the install. people give the install warranty so they can get the call and cover their mistakes.

What we get is High-Efficency (90%). It is in the contract.

Central Air was included in my purchase price.. and unfortunately isnt quite working as of yet.

Applewood and Mattamy have been awesome so far !

mattamy arranged for Applewood to be at my house yesterday to fix it and then again today since it stopped working again...
Also, last night Mattamy came around to everyone's house with Pop, water etc. to appologise for the AIR not working.

Applewood called me just a few minutes ago to check in and see if it was now working and to schedule another visit tomorrow if I have any problems tonight.

The units that they installed in our houses were apparently a new model and there have been a few difficulties, which is frusterating, but at least they are being very good at getting to the house right away which is nice.

I agree with you, had AC not been included in my purchase price (make no mistake I wouldnt have upgraded with Mattamy on this one), I would have had old neighbours of mine who are in the business install AC for me. If not only to give my money to a local Milton Company.

Thankfully that splashpad is right around the corner !

Yes, if your read into the sticker. It doesn't say which warrenty will be void...just that A warrenty will be void...ie the installers (Applewood's) not the actual furnace.

Thats what I see...not that I'm right.

Here's another idea to consider:
Might the money you save from going after closing with another supplier not pay for labour if something did go wrong? It seems to me that if the money that is saved really is that significant, why not risk going with someone else? Then if there are problems, you can rest assured that you haven't spent more money than going through Mattamy/Applewood anyway.

Am I over simplifying this?
