We've been in our Tothburg now for just over 3 weeks, and now that our house is almost unpacked I've been thinking towards finishing our basement. I've been trying to think of how exactly to finish it off (ie what type of rooms to have and where to have them). Does anyone have any pictures of a finished Tothburg basement to give me some ideas?

We're in the same situation, our basement isn't finished yet (Tothburg) and trying to think of future ideas. I was playing with a design program trying to think of some good rooms. I wanted a pool table, bar, TV/Media Room, and Gym/exercise room. Not sure how to lay it out though. There are some annying support columns and plumbing pipes in the way in some spots (tried to work them in the image below). Plus you need access to the Furnace, electric panel, etc. Plus I still need some small space for storage.



Below is a link to how I'd LIKE our basement to look. But couldn't get that layout to fit exactly the same way in the tothburg basement, so the above image takes some liberities in the layout but is trying to do something similar to the below link.

That basement looks sweet! However, since we have three kids, I'm pretty sure a pool table/bar room wouldn't get much use (until they're much older). I'm thinking about having a big rec room/play room in the room shown in your scheme on the bottom left, and the far right room as a tool storage/workroom. I'm also thinking about possibly putting in some big storage "closets" (with plenty of shelves) to store all of the toys...

What design program were you using? Is it a free download? I'd like to play around with my basement....

with all the columns in the basement, you can try to incorporate them into the new walls,

In the basement i am working on currently, i used a wall thickness of 2x6's instead of 4" and eliminated 4 posts in one room alone.

I was using "Interior Designer" software by "Better Homes and Gardens". It's not free, can't remember, I either bought it from Staples or Futureshop.

Another great (free) program that you can use is called Google SketchUp.
It allows you to create the regular floorplans, and then turn it into 3D.
The software is really easy to use. I have been using it for a while now.
