They are usually just made on site. A piece of wood with a foam block held on with 2" nails. Not very complicated at all.

I've pushed enough of these things out of the way to find they are not really a store-bought item.

You can cut a piece of 1/2" plywood to the right dimension. Find a thick piece of styrofoam cut to the right size and place it on one side of the wood. Use a 16g nailer to put a bunch of 2" nails through the wood into the styrofoam to hold it in place. Then paint the facedown side.

What exactly happened to the first one? :)

Sure you can use glue and you dont really need a clean edge since no one is gonna see it. I've seen styrofoam cutters that are just really hot wires and it melts it but then you have to worry about the toxic gas it gives off when it burns. I would just use a fine hand saw.

BTW what did you do to the original attic door?? I've never heard of anyone ever needing to replace one.

That's right actually.. I've seen them glued too.. However, those are usually the ones that have come apart.
