I may have posted about this before..

Here's what you need:

Enough 2" vac pipe and fittings to connect everything up in the basement to the garage

    PVC glue

Pipe cutter large enough to cut 2" PVC

A 2.5" holesaw or self-feed bit for drilling from garage into basement along with a drill powerful enough for driving something that size

Caulking for filling in the gap around the pipe

22G or better wire to tie up all the switch wires and something to connect them all together

Level for keeping the vac unit plumb when hanging

Inlet plates to wire in and cover up all the holes in the wall

I'm sure there is a few other things I may be forgetting along the way.

It takes me an average of 3 hours to pipe a house from basement to garage, hang the vac, do all the cover plates, test the unit and show you how it works.

If you need any assistance, let me know.

I'd never heard of a central vacuum installation not going to the garage until I bought this Mattamy.

If there is no finished basement, you may find that many builders do it this way. It saves a few bucks while still meeting the terms of 'rough-in'.

...Mattamy Central Vac is a Cheappo.
In "default" rough-in version they are not doing it as all normal builders.
As result the only second floor is working, and if you want first floor, you have to run pipes from the basement to the garage.
Of course they didn’t tell us about it clear and loud in the design center....

I know of many builders that do it this way and sell the pipe to the garage as an upgrade. I've roughed it in this way for other builders because that's all they wanted to pay for.

Not sure I understand the second floor part. Second floor will drop to either the garage or the basement depending on what is underneath.

I just bought and installed one 3 weeks ago. I paid Mattamy the extra $200 upgrade to get the power in the garage and the pipes brought in there. It took me 30 minutes to hang and install it. Granted Mattamy came back and fixed the pipe that the electrician drilled through but it was well worth it.

You can use a chop saw to cut the pipe and the pipe is 5 bucks or so for 10 feet I think. Very inexpensive and easy to do.
I personaly beleive I saved lots of money and got a way better unit then the one Mattamy sells.

I even ran an outlet in my garage to the front of the garage so the 30 foot garage kit hose I bought can do the cars in the drive way.

Face plates are 7-8 bucks each and you can use cat 3 phone cable that is 30 cents a meter from HD for the power.

I bought the Vac-Pan and am waiting for my neighbor (Is a plumber) to cut into my kitchen floor to install it under my island.

Good luck!
Matt

When we went for our PDI last week the central vac terminated in the garage and we didnt have to request it. Im not sure if they have heard all the complaints and are changing policy or not, but I know ours was done the common sense way.

I asked about that also, and the mattamy rep taking us through on the PDI played dumb like she never heard of these things going to the basement before. She tried to tell me it hasnt been done in years. But apparently ours all terminates in the garage. Maybe we just got lucky.

I just bought a Canavac too. it is awesome. I probably bought it from the same guy you did but from his store. I know he was at the home show and he had lots of stock due to the snow so we got a deal.
He is out of Oakville.

Great system, easy to install.

We are getting the install from them for $200. Can we do this ourselves or through someone else for cheaper?

If everything is piped out to the garage, installation from me would be $80-$100.

If it's not all piped to the garage, then closer to $180.

If you need your central vac installed, feel free to PM me.
