Phil,

We too received our Survey in the mail yesterday - and after looking at the questions briefly, one would think that yes, these surveys are (in part) used for the JD Power rankings. Perhaps there is another survey down the road - but just answer the questions honestly - regardless.

We just started doing our 30 day walk-through list last night (it needs to be faxed by Friday). We plan to fill out the survey after we finish the list; just so we have a clearer picture of the condition of the full house.

Not sure if this information helps or not, but that's my 2 cents.

We had Carole from New Homes Inspections come over on Saturday to do our 30 day list and boy oh boy is it long.

That's who we had over last night. She was at our house for about 3 1/2 hours and since we have the smallest Mattamy townhome (1130 sq.ft.); you know our list is long too. I think Carole was even somewhat surprised at how little work they've done since our PDI... MOST of the items which were listed on that report are being listed again as outstanding on the 30 Day report; plus of course, all the "new" items we've discovered!

We had Carole for our 50' detached home and had about 170 items on our 30 day!

Ha! Seemed like an Eon. It was worth it though cause when you think of it, we pay a lot of money to have a house done right and no one should be satisfied with unsatisfactory work.

Little was done after our PDI list was made. We didn't hear from Mattamy till after the 30 day was submitted and we now have an appointment in July for 3 Mattamy guys to come out and try to do a 'blitz' on our house with the 160 or so items on our list. They said they will have other contractors in the area too if needed. I'll be sure not to sign off anything unless done properly.

Yeah, I put everything on my list but some I will be doing myself because I can do it better than them....such as fixing nail pops, etc. Painters don't put drop sheets down either, they have to take quite a few paint marks out of our rugs. I'm going to watch closely to see how they remedy that one.

We have some major drywall/patch issues also, and we have 3 large carpet seams that have come up. The big problem with this is that the seams run right through the centre of two different rooms  . Carole suggests they refit the carpet all together and place the seams where they can't be seen, but if they don't even sand their patchwork - there's a very slim chance that they will replace the carpet :x

Does anyone know...If our builder still has a key, will they come by to do the work without us knowing, or will they be calling to schedule an appointment or something?

We got two surveys in the mail. For us, the first one was stricktly for Mattamy, and the second one was clearly indicated for JD Power.

Ah, interesting. The one that you got for Mattamy, was it handled by a 3rd party survey company? The one that I have is from a company called AVID Ratings.

Thanks,
Phil

That's the one from Mattamy. If your house is going to get JD, trust me, you will KNOW by the 'friendly' visits from mattamy folkes asking if anything is broken etc

Fully intend to! The people that did well will get the praise but the people who did not do well, well they will hear about it. Suffice it to say that, just like in Milton, there was such a rush to finish all the homes, that the quality is horrendous and it shows.

We have same impression with our second Mattamy home in Milton.
First one was OK, but second one not exactly perfect as first was.
Here is one thing my wife learned two days ago from another two local Mattamy home owners. They were approached by Mattamy service representative with trade offer. Good points for Mattamy in all questions – some extra for home. For example, as good as free hardwood at second floor hallway.
Perhaps if all new home owners will start ask Mattamy about it first, they will finally decide to build homes with quality, but not just homes by quantity with random kickbacks after closing to get fake excellence awards..

So then there is really no need to hold back on this survey until the warranty work is done?

We held back until well after our 30-day. Prior to closing we experienced good service but after closing is a different story. We were honest with our answers - we gave good ratings for certain things and bad ratings for others.

The 3 warranty guys that came in to do our 30-day were great. They were in for 3 days and did alot of work, although they couldn't take care of everything b/c alot of the items had to go back to the trades. The trades Mattamy hires are horrible - they do a half-as* job on everything. And often in the process of fixing something they will damage something else.

I wonder if they will send these out to the Ottawa community.. That would be an interesting survey result.
