I knew about the traffic situation before I moved to Milton, so I am not surprised that my morning commute to Mississauga is utterly ridiculous.

I am however confused by the lack to construction. Are there plans to widen Steels, Derry or Britiana all the way to Trafalgar any time soon? It's impossible to get in/out of this town and I am not seeing any attempt to correct this. Am I missing something, or do we need new city planners?

Just curious.

Unfortunately you're going to have to live with it for the next 2-3 years or get outta Milton. I'd prefer the latter myself but my wife still likes it here and puts up with the traffic. Good luck.

Hi Bremer

Sorry you are missing all the construction projects in the area, you can check halton.ca under regional roads for current and future projects.

Here is some of the current projects:

Derry road widening to 4 lanes from James Snow Parkway to Highway #407 to be completed by summer 2009.

Trafalgar Road widening to 4 lanes plus an overpass at the CPR line from Highway #401 to Britannia Road.

Construction of a new section of James Snow Parkway from Louis St. Laurent to Britannia Road to open later in 2008.

Construction of James Snow Parkway north of Steeles Ave. to swing west and connect with the Highway #25 section.

Construction of traffic lights at Scott Blvd. and Derry Road, Bronte St. N and Steeles Ave.

After the completion of the Derry road widening Steeles Ave. is scheduled to be widened to 4 lanes from James Snow Parkway to Winston Churchill Blvd. in 2010-2011.

Highway #25 interchange is being widened at the QEW leading to a complete 4 lane section from Highway #407 to Derry road in 2010-2011 (you can see the signs on the road)

After Steeles Ave. widening is completed Britannia road is planned to be widened to 4 lanes from Tremaine Road to Highway #407.

Tremaine Road will be widened to 4 lanes in 2010-2011 north of Derry road to a new Main St. W. traffic circle with a further widening to Steeles Ave. in 2012 or earlier depending on development in the area.

Also the Town of Milton is completing the Thompson Road project with Nipissing Road intersection opening later this week and the full 4 lane widening opening by this September.

The Town is also working on the acceleration of Louis St. Laurent Blvd. from Thompson Road to Tremaine Road as a two lane artery in the next 2-3 years with a further widening to 4 lanes when the Boyne Survey is built after 2012.

Check halton.ca home page for the Sustainable Halton information which the Region is requesting information from the Province when the funding is coming for the expansion of Milton and Oakville hospitals as well as the expansion of GO transit services and the Highway #401 expansion through Mississauga and Milton.

There will be public meetings and open houses this fall regarding the Sustainable Halton plan, the Derry Green employment area east of James Snow Parkway and the Boyne Survey Secondary Plan south of Louis St. Laurent Blvd. for another 40,000 people. I would encourage you and anyone interested in Milton's future to attend and give your opinions, ideas and concerns that can help shape Milton's future.

Wow. Thanks Colin! That's more information then I could have imagined possible.

After Thompson, the widening of Derry should be the key to traffic sanity. Glad to see it won't be too long until it's done.

Brittania and 5th Line doesn't have lights. Just stop signs for North/South.

Brittania and 25 is the worst of the bunch on Brittania. Atleast when I took Lower Base Line, the lights at 25 had motion sensors, so if you stopped just right, the lights would change fairly rapidly. I've been stuck at 25 on Brittania with absolutely no traffic coming either way, and still had to wait atleast 2 minutes for the light to change. That's just ridiculous. If it can be done on Lower Base, they should be able to do the same for Brittania which is a busier road.

AndyBuck...

Most of us are going to Mississauga. Myself, Mavis and Dundas. So here are my 3 options now, cuz the 401 is out of the question...

1) Brittania
2) Derry
3) Dundas

Derry sucks due to construction. Dundas really sucks when you are around the 403 ramp. Brittania sucks too since I constantly get stuck at all the lights.

Damn I miss Lower Base Line!

I wasn't being nitpicky...honestly Tim. :) Just didn't know if you meant 6th Line or 4th Line since both of them have lights. Atleast when I hit 6th Line I know that i'll be getting off Brittania. That makes me happy. lol

Since we're talking about bad traffic & ways to get out of Milton... I'm starting a new job in Sept. and it's at Dixie & Eglinton (I know.. I know...). Does anyone have any recommendations? I think the 401 is pretty much out. Other options are Derry all the way to McLauglin & then Matheson; Britannia over to Matheson, Britannia to the 407 (probably wouldn't want to do that everyday). Other? Which is the lesser of the evils?

Sobeys actually. But don't tell my boss because I haven't broken the news yet. Muuuuahahahahaaa.

Anyways ok good suggestions I'll try both. I am surprised you say 401 cuz I thought it was an absolute parking lot! But if it's not then that would be great.

Mattamy sales office is saying that the 401 will have an exit at Tremain in the near future? Can anyone verify this? Or is this false information they are using to sell houses?

I went to the planning and engineering department in Milton and got the same information. Right now they are thinking around the 2010-2011 mark for the construction to take place. So I would say Mattamy does have the correct information from the city as it stands right now.

Hi dijuy

Who did you speak to at the Town?

Please pm. me as the Region who is in charge of Tremaine Road just put the proposed #401 interchange in its 2017 capital budget (check halton.ca under road projects) and just had the Enivronmental Assessment report approved.

The section they may be refering to, is from Derry Road to the new Main St. W. traffic circle which is budgeted for 2011 and the Main to Steeles Ave. section with a re-aligned intersection at Steeles about 300 metres east of the current location in 2012.

The cost of the Steeles Ave. to Campbellville Side Road section which includes a railway underpass, new bridge over the 16 mile creek and a full interchange similar to Mavis & #401 is now estimated at $90 million + hopefully with the new Federal-Provincial infrastructure project the Region could be eligible for funding for an earlier construction date.

Currently the intersection of Bronte and Steeles is being widened for traffic lights which should be operational this fall, and the purchase of road section for James Snow Parkway south of Louis St. Laurent Blvd to Britannia road has closed so the construction can begin soon on the 4 lane road and traffic lights half half between 4th and 5th lines in the next 6-9 months.

Will let everyone know when the capital budget for 2009 will be discussing for your comments and ideas.
