Does anyone know of an app or equipment that I can buy that will allow me to play music wirelessly whether through Bluetooth or wifi through my home stereo? I have a dream of sitting on my patio with a cold brew selecting songs to listen to through my iPad.

I know how to do it on my android phone in conjunction with my media centre PC that I have connected to my stereo ...

Since "everything just works" in apple land, I'm sure it must be possible.

EDIT: Have you tried to enlist the help of a wizard, witch or warlock? You know, since the iPad is "magical".

Bad news: I heard you can only use the blue tooth in that function is if you jail break your ipod/pad. Sorry but little things like this have started to make me resent apple.

This is what I've feared. Apple is being anal about their codec so the ipad can't really connect to anything. I have a mac and the ipad and the mac can see each other through bluetooth but they won't connect. I also get the same result with a ps3. I was just hoping someone knew of a workaround. I'm going to do some research on that belkin thing.

That's right...I have an iphone that is jailbroken/unlocked (not illegal, but no warranty from Apple). I did it about two weeks ago. I can now run itunes from iphone to my blue tooth headset on my bike...no wires and it sounds great.

There are some bugs with the jailbreak...some programs freezing, but overall I like it...pay as go contract with Fido and tons of apps...

The other thing you can use is an FM Transmitter from you iPad...not the best quality, but an inexpensive alternative.

Just read this on Macworld "Bluetooth accessories for streaming audio to your stereo, such as Belkin’s Bluetooth Music Receiver (which I covered in a Macworld video), also work well, letting you watch video or play games on your iPad’s screen while the audio plays through your big rig."

so that might be the ticket. Thanks ccwest.

Huh? I've always been able to do this, and my phone isn't jailbroken?

I have a 590 Plantronics headset...

That's because you most likely have a blue tooth adapter that plugs into your iphone....that's not what we are talking about.

Do you need to plug in an adapter into your iphone for your headset to work with the iTunes? That's the difference...I don't.

My jailbroken IPhone app works with ANY blue tooth device...not just one.

Uhh no - Not the case - I have NO adapter plugged into my phone. I simply paired it with the headset and away I go... I've used it to watch movies and listen to music...

Wow...that's pretty good then. That's the first I have heard of it? How much did the unit cost?

I bought it a long time ago - they don't make the 590 anymore. When I bought it, there were selling in the stores for about $200, I ended up finding someone on another board that I'm a part of selling his for $40. I snatched it up.

At the time, I did not have the iPhone, but I did hook it up when it I got it. It's worked fine for me ever since...

The only problem I'm having is that I used to be able to get my motorola in car bluetooth kit which supports A2DP to stream the music via it's FM transmitter to the car. Then one day, it just stopped. I didn't update it or anything...

Any idea's?

I went with the airport express and it works great. I had a problem finding it with my pc so I had to use my Mac to configure it but it was very easy to incorporate it into my existing network. It's great because I can use it with both of my libraries and control it with my iPad or iPod touch. The digital connection was a nice bonus too. Thanks Anthony.
