First time I've seen the show- I thought it looked like Milton.

There were massive insulation problems, noise issues ( Semi ) Fire hazards, Carbon Monoxide risks....they actually took their entire kitchen apart- Cabinets off the walls- I was extremely shocked at what I saw.

Holmes on Homes
Episode: Wall of Sound
hosted by: Mike Holmes
This is a story about proximity. Many newly built homes such as semi-detached, town homes and condo units feature designs that share common walls.
In the case of our homeowners, Sylvie and Guy, who had just moved into a brand new semi-detached home, they were in for a shock when they realized that they could clearly hear their next door neighbor through the walls!

The sound issue was so disruptive that the homeowners were certain moving away was their only option, until Mike and the team found the solution.

Re-editing my post....

I don't think it's Mattamy. Look at slide 88 on the website you can see the houes plaque on the exterior front of the house. It says lot 42L and above it you can see a logo, I can't recognize the logo but it's not Mattamy's, some other builder.

I don't think it's Greenpark - they're actually a very good builder.

Let's see, it's not Mattamy and it's not Greenpark, then who could it be?

The mystery continues...

I am in a Greenpark home and I can tell you that is not their sign on the house. It is one of the homes over in this area though as I know I've seen that sign around. I'm thinking it's Tiffany Homes but I could be wrong.

I know for sure that they have done at least 2 shows here in Milton. One of them I stumbled on while they were shooting last winter. It was a detached Tiffany home in the area of Main and Thompson. The one they featured on Sunday was another one but I don't know the builder either.

Good to hear your issue was resolved.

My question is why didnt' the builder step up? What was their reasoning for not doing coming to the plate? Did they at least help with the costs if there were any?

Cheers,
Gman

I think that episode involved a Mattamy home.

Every episode I have seen this year looks like Mattamy, especially looking down the streets!

That was a Mattamy house, but in Burlington. A co-worker of mine knows the couple.

o.k. there are leaks and there are drafts... if the door is drafty, i would get them to fix it. if it's just cold to the touch (like all our windows and door facing north) there is not much you can do about that.

btw, in the energystar home, they do a air tightness test around the doors, fireplace, garage, etc.. and the reading had to be a certain number. but i wasn't 0. i think that's impossible unless you wrap your house in plastic.

anyway, good luck with your issues.

I wonder why energystar homes need HRV unit if they have the same venting mechanisms as other homes?

because of what you wrote ...

If your home was free of any leaks you would probably have some health issues. Unless you had a heat recovery ventilation unit like the energystar homes.

If you still have draft problems, you should see how your house stacks up with and energuide test...that is if they still have them around.

I did mine last March and scored a 74 and can get to a 78 when I do some upgrades myself and thats not even going with a better furnace and low E windows.

The guy that I talked to said every new home should have an HRV, but builders won't put them in yet, unless it becomes code or you pay for it.

Good luck.

Tim
