Hey Scotian, I think you're right about how it works. You have the option to go with the standard appliances and have them installed or you can opt to upgrade your appliances and they will credit you the value of those three appliances. They never gave us a specific dollar amount when we called appliance canada. We actually bought our appliances elsewhere and are probably going to use the credit towards a tv.

Hmm... I just received an email from Mattamy.

It stated that if you do not want the standard appliances, then you can cancel the standards and Mattamy will give $1500 towards upgrades at the design center instead (or upgrade to SS for $630, which, at that price is probably still low end appliances. Certainly not a 25 cu ft fridge).

I'm guessing if you want to have that $1500 as a credit towards your appliances, that you have to request the standards and then do the rest behind the scenes with Appliance Canada.

Hey Scotian....$1500.00 credit is actually better than what I got with the Brick. My credit came up to be $1300.00 something.

Yea, but it's not a credit for Appliance Canada, it's a credit towards Design Center upgrades.

In any case, I was in Vaughan on Saturday and popped into Appliance Canada. I spoke to a lady there, and she told me they operate in the same way the Brick does.

When you go to your Design Appointment, request the standard appliance package, then contact Appliance Canada a couple months before your closing date to choose whatever appliances you wish to have delivered and pay the difference minus the credit they give you.

Has anyone gone through the process at Appliance Canada yet?
We chose the standards with Mattamy with the intention of upgrading through Appliance Canada to take advantage of the credit from the value of the standard 3 appliances.

I was off today and stopped in to get an idea of what their pricing is and to get quotes on the specific models we are looking at. I sat down with Tony Di Piazza in his office and gave him the models one by one.

He would type it in and give me the final price after he deducted the standard appliance value. For example, I would give him a fridge to quote and he would subtract the exact value of the standard fridge.
I thought I would get quoted on all pieces and then be told that I have $xxxx.xx to use as credit. He told me it doesn't work like that.. and he would really give me a clear explanation of how it worked. He would not even give me the individual value of each standard appliance so I could see how much 'credit' i was getting.

I asked him to quote a washer and dryer combo and his price was $600 higher than Sears' retail price. I challenged him on it and then he fumbled through some of his spreadsheets and then found a promotion and then came down to what Sears has the same combo listed for.

On the fridge, he told me their price of $2300 and then subtracted my 'credit' from that amount to come up with his final price. I get home and check the price on Leon's website (who own Appliance Canada) and it's listed for $2100.
I went in armed with prices that I gathered from Canadian Appliance Source's website and Tony discredited that place with running a shady business. He couldn't even come close to the prices listed on their website (between $200 and $300 higher on each item).

Anyways, I was extremely dissatisfied with their lack of flexibility. I guess if they know you chose your appliance package with Mattamy that you're stuck with them and they won't do you any favors.

I went to Goeman's afterward and gave them the same list of model numbers and told them what Appliance Canada quoted me, including the credit. They seemed more than optimistic that they could do the entire package (Fridge, DW, Range, Washer/Dryer) for the same price, or come extremely close.

Since nothing has broken ground on our lot yet, I'm hoping I can go back and forfeit the appliances all together and take the $1500 in DC upgrades. I'll get our appliances elsewhere.

Hello,

Just wondering if you take the $1500 credit in lieu of appliances do you still get the a/c unit?

Yes, you still get the a/c unit installed if you take the credit. That's what we ended up doing.. And bought our own appliances (since the included ones, even with the stainless upgrade and additional smooth-top stove upgrade, were pretty basic).
