We're looking for some catering for about 25 people on a Sunday (April 25th) at our house. Probably just the food (but also curious how much service costs and if it's possible in a home).

Saw a lot of good reviews on Allison's catering in Milton. If anyone's used them previously I'd be interested if you could PM me on what your menu looked like and how much it cost for how many people.

Also looking at La Rose Bakery, I got emailed their catering menu and we frequently drop by there (Ryan loves their deserts) and like the food and service.

If anyone also has other recommendations. Mainly for a type a formal type of dinner (i.e. not interested in sandwiches, cold dinners or pizza type dinners).

Thanks!

I have used "Catering By Gregory's" before. I know they are located in Brampton, but it might be worth calling them for a quote. They have great prices, and there food was wonderful!

I have spent my day calling around places as well for catering. We also have an event next Sat. 25 people.

I found pricing at Portalia to be good, chicken + potatoes + rice will run us approx. 100.00.

I also plan to try Main St. Donuts.... their food is really good as well.

Let me know who you went with!

Here's a link to a good article on caterers in the GTA and pricing from The Toronto Star.

We used Main Street donuts for my mom's 60th. I think that was the place, at the corner of Main and Thompson. Very good food and very reasonable.

I used Karpaty Euromax (corner of James Snow and Main St) last year for my husband's 30th bday party. We had about 30 people and I wanted to ensure there would be plenty of food. I ordered chicken and pork schnitzel, cabbage rolls, pierogies, roasted potoatoes, beef and sauerkraut stew, and numerous salads. The food was delicious, fresh and got rave reviews. We had plenty of leftovers. Altogether it cost approx. $150. Not sure if I could have made it cheaper myself. I would definitely use them in the future for other functions and highly recommend them to others.

Ha! That would be expensive. Maybe 8000 voters x $30 = $240,000.

Actually it's our 10th wedding anniversary this month. Originally we were planning to do it off-site as a local restaurant but to make it more cozy and a little less costly now planning to have it at our home.

We're going to Vegas for a 1 week vacation after Razz

Anyone know of any Wait Staff (likely just 1 person, but maybe 2) that are willing to help with a small catering event ?

We were thinking of doing 4 courses and I wanted more a sit-down style (not-buffet) to avoid the line-ups, etc. If doing multiple courses, sit-down service is more relaxed and will last longer versus a buffet where everyone lines up to serve themselves.

Some catering companies will provide Wait Staff at around $25 - 30 per hour. But usually they'll only do it if you buy *all* the food from them as well. Right now we're looking at it maybe not all being from the same caterer (although likely most of it may come from La Rose).

Menu so far...

Appetizers that people eat before sitting down
Assorted Sushi (Salmon, red & green dragon rolls etc) roughly $100 worth picked up from a local Milton Sushi restaurant.
Large Tiger Shrimp with spicy shrimp cocktail sauce (Family member bringing/providing).

Salad (1st sit-down course)
Salad (mixed with sliced strawberries, Blue Cheese, raspberry dressing, dried cranberries, crushed walnuts). Family member will bring

Pasta - 2nd course
Individual choice of
Penna Pasta Alla Vodka (Classic Penne Past in rosee sause infused and slow cooked with Vodka - 15-20 servings $75 (La Rose)
Or
Gnocchi di patate - Potato gnocchi served in tomato basil sauce with real grana padano parmesan cheese - 7-10 servings $39 (La Rose)

Main Course - 3rd course
Individual Meat choice of
Tilapia fish fillet oven baked in a fresh tomato parsley butter lemon salsa - 12 pc $65 (La Rose)
Or
Bacon-wrapped fillet mignons (steak) - Store (Metro) bought and cooked at our own BBQ, about 15 servings ($55 roughly)

....on same plate with a fresh sweet bell pepper stuffed with rice, vegetables, mozzarella and fresh grated parmesan cheese, baked in the oven and then toped with tomato sauce and more parmesan - $140 - 30 portions - (La Rose)

Dessert - 4th course
Tartufo drizzled with Amaretto liquor (picked up from Dorgels in Woodbridge) ($90 roughly)
Choice of Irish Coffee (i.e. coffee with baileys) or Spanish Coffee (i.e. coffee with kahlua & brandy) or regular coffee

That comes up to around $564 for about 25 people. Then if I add Wait staff, say 1-2 people to help for 3 hours additional $75-150.

We'd use some chafing-dishes with sterno fuel cells to keep things (including the steaks) warm between courses. All the hot food would be catered except for the steaks which would be bbq'ed (grilled) in our BBQ an hour before dinner and kept warm in the chafing dishes. Us guys like to stand around & bbq meat while drinking beers before dinner Razz .

If I skip the wait-staff we'll either just get some family members to serve, or turn it into a buffet-style (which I'm trying to avoid) instead. Thing is I don't want to do buffet-style, but at the same time don't want either myself or wife to run-around on our anniversary serving, but would also feel guilty having a family member do it.

Anyone know of any Wait Staff in Milton willing to hire-out for a in-house dinner in Milton for 3 hours on a sunday?

Has anyone ever catered a roughly 25 person dinner in their house with Wait staff on a sit-down style (non-buffet). Was it weird or did it turn out ok?

I'll check with my friend Geoff - he's a server. I'm one as well, but I work 2.5 jobs already. Smile

What times were you thinking, and what day?

Rick - want me to ask Manny at Symposium? I can swing by there tomorrow if you like.
Not sure they allow it through the actual restaurant due to liability reasons, but he might know if any of his staff are looking for work on the side.
