report it to the police.

there has been some spray painting on the park at Luxton so there are some trouble makers. Town cleaned it up within 1 hour of the phone call to them about it.

Kids will be kids but there are some poor parents out there who are amplifing their kids behaviour.

Matt

I can understand how you feel - at our last house in England neighbourhood kids trashed our bushes in our front yard, turning it into a ramp for their bikes. We confronted the parents, tthey said 'kids will be kids', and from then on SENT the kids to play in our front yard and around our car (they were about 7 houses up the street - the kids were about 8 and 6).

When someone broke into our house by climbing through our closed kitchen window, helped themselves to my laptop, purse (including cell phone, mp3 player, etc.) and both sets of keys to the car, then calmly let themselves out our back door and drove off in our car we decided it was time to move.

Where in HV do you live (not exact street)? Just wondering if you are near a park or area where kids could have been drinking and they just chucked the bottle on their way home? It doesn't make it any better, but that somehow doesn't seem as bad to me as if it was one of your neighbours.

I just read a couple of posts from a group on facebook called "Old Milton Is Beter Then New Milton" and they seem pretty outraged at the fact that Mattamy and other companies are making so many large residential developments in Milton...These posts went to the point of threatening/swearing at companies like Mattamy and also had many raicist remarks towards the residents of these developments....

I was thinking...maybe it might be some of the more passionate of these people causing all this harm/trouble in Hawthorne Village...

I get really pissed off with this "bring back old milton" BS. How far back should we go...perhaps 1870 that way everybody that moved to milton after that date can leave as well.

There are more of us newbies now. This is Milton, we all are Milton. I have many friend that have moved here recently and have purchased older homes. Even some left HV to go to the older neighbourhoods.

1980's Milton, from what I understand was not that great of a place to live - the town did not have a good reputation.

Too bad about the having the beer bottle thru the window. I too have had some minor troubles over my past 4 years but these were truely minor. I still believe that a neighbourhood watch is a good idea and would be interested in forming one. PM me if you have any interest in looking at this in the fall.

Thanks

The only way the kids/parents in this situation will learn anything is if you sue them (if you can find out who did it). And I don't even mean 'American style' sueing where you do it for major monetary gain, just take them to court, get the money for the damages and get them to do some community service or something. That may not even get through to their thick heads, but it's a start. Just my 2 cents.

Something about glass houses and throwing stones... I think if you look around our forum you will see a lot of stuff about how New Milton is better then New New Milton. Maybe not as much racism, but a lot of "Well not that I'm here were full, so no one after me."

I'd guess its more the case of kids on summer holidays wandering around being dumb, and board. It's still not good, but needs to be addressed with as much available summer activity for youth of all ages. This includes part time jobs, as earning an income teaches valuable lessons on property value and eats up a bunch of time. When they aren't working they are also most likely to reinvest that cash into activities which will occupy there time as well.

Just some thoughts.

The funniest part of the "bring back old milton" stuff is that every generation had to send their kids out of town, because there were no more houses. Now there are tons of us expatriates returning and hearing from people that bought 10 or 15 years ago that we aren't welcome. It doesn't matter anyway, at the rate mandated for growth in the town "old milton" will be so vastly outnumbered in a few years that major change will come to the town.

I had my car window shot at with a bb gun the day I moved in. I found the bb on the front seat of my car. Nothing has happened since but there is definitely a lack of things for kids to do in town if they are shooting out windows for fun.

Has anyone in HV ever had their solar lights stolen? I was at someone's house today and saw some solar lights that according to my standards, were pretty good quality and they were also on sale!!!!...I was excited and made plans to go and get some for myself (eventhough closing is almost a year away ) when I remembered some of the occurances mentioned in this thread...would it be wise to put in good solar lights in a front lawn in HV or would it just be another case of vandalism/theft waiting to occur?

You think it was any better when I grew up here in the 80's and 90's?? That is a poor excuse and a cop out.

Toronto is just not sending it's trash to Michigan.........

The best is when I hear that people move here for a better life for their families! Hey, if your kids were dirt bags where you came from, they will just continue it here. I hold parents 100% responsible for their kids.

We had solar lights stolen off our front lawn last summer... I have since replaced them and so far they are still here.

There isnt really much of anything for the young kids to do in town but seriously...if there was a bowling alley in town...these hoodlums would STILL be doing what they do.

Ive noticed a bit more police presence in our area which is a good thing. I hope one day theyll catch the yahoos around our streets who think its "cool" to drag race, peel tires and drive like idiots during the evening hours.

Until then, we can continue to make reports to the police...hopefully catch these yahoo's and in the meantime some good minded entreprenures can build something for the good kids to hang out in...like a bowling alley or something like that.

MAIN problem is THERE IS NOTHING FOR KIDS (teens) TO DO.... what with both parents working... and then commuting till about 6/7pm... and leaving their "my kids are good" at home to "take care" of themselves... what are they supposed to do... if they lived in the city they would have SOMETHING to do and SOMEPLACE to hang out in...

What does Milton offer (that is cool) for teens, the mall sucks, there is no transit... etc etc... so like I used to do when I was a 15-17 year old living south of Lake Simcoe, I would drink and smoke and cause a little trouble... now back then living in a samll town of 2000 peoplem, trouble was breaking into a barn and cow tipping or something like that.

just my 2 cents...

So let me see if I have this straight: because Milton is not a hub of fun activity for teens, they really have no other options but to wreak havoc and vandalize other people's and public property?

So by that theory, why isn't downtown Toronto immune from vandalism?

-S.

We need a bowling alley, the deck is nice, but to far, we need free transit for teens, and more stuff where teens can go and hang out but not get into trouble
Maybe we should start investing our money in our youth ,
