Just to let everyone know Heidi the Town traffic co-ordinator let councillors know that the construction for the traffic lights at Thompson and Yates should be starting Monday October 1st and should be operating by October 27th.

Town staff is still monitoring the other intersections south of Yates but as of this spring none of them met the warrant counts to justify traffic lights. Police and traffic engineers are monitoring Thompson and other busy traffic arteries including James Snow and Waldie to improve traffic and pedestrian safety.

Great to hear. I guess I will stay away from exiting the neighborhood from there for awhile, i'm sure the construction will add to the traffic trying to get out.

Hey colin and idea when the park will be done off of philbrook. Sign said Sept but that didn't happen.

I think thats very good news for that intersection. As someone who comes out of that intersection on the east side I can see the difficulty of anyone coming from the west side having to turn north to Derry. You are taking your life in your hands and the lights will help.

Hopefully in time for trick or treaters!

Thanks for the info Colin.

Wow, they must be hiding pretty well. Either that or they are feeding you a good story. Haven't seen a speed trap or a single cruiser on Thompson since we moved in in May. :?:

I did see that they fixed speed limit signs around the A&P plaza even though it hasn't slowed anyone down one bit.. :)

Glad to hear about the lights, seeing something red in a distance might slow people down enough for us to be able to cross Thompson with our stroller in time.

Can I suggest at the least a pedestrian cross walk at Hepburn and Thompson for us to be able to go shopping safely without having to take our car.

Thank you.

Yes I noticed the signs were changed near the plaza as well. But it would not slow people down as the limit went up. I am pretty sure it was 50 before and now it is 60.

I don't think the constuction started yesterday but I may be wrong. I did not see anything different going on at the intersection.

I saw two guys in reflective vests standing out there measuring stuff at around 8:30am. That was it.

Hi,
As per the original post, the lights are to be operational at the end of this week. However, there's no sign at all of such progress for this traffic signal. Do we know the cause of this delay, Colin? Would it be done this year??

Seems like they work ever other day if that. Nobody working on the intersection today, I don't see the lights being put up and working by the end of the week.

Hi everyone
Heidi the Town traffic co-ordinator got back to me today and stated the underground work has been done at Yates and Thompson and the poles are coming next week with a completion about the second week of November with the installation of the controller etc.

Where on Yates did this happen??

I moved off of Yates because of the level of danger on that street.

PostPosted: Mon Nov 05, 2007 12:47 pm Post subject: Yates Stop sign
There was yet again another accident on Yates. That is the second time in four months that a car was speeding down Yates and drove right into a house. I don’t remember the councilor who lives on Yates but he needs to push for a four way stop on Yates before someone gets hurt.

Well thanks for the promotion...but I wasnt elected in November. I do however live on Yates drive and Ive now witnessed TWO major accidents on that intersection of Yates and March Crossing. We have been told by the Town Staff that it doesnt warrant having a four way stop at this location.

The same house oddly enough was struck again this weekend and thank GOD there was no one on that sidewalk at that time. The first accident his past summer there were children walking along at the time of the accident.

Speed has a lot to do with it. If youre going east on Yates you have some time to gain speed and 50KM/hr is way too much. There is way too much time to gain up speed, and when you add in someone else poking their car out / not paying attention to on coming traffic / etc, you can have a disaster on your hands.

I will be sending around a petition on our street and surrounding streets this week to see if we can get something done. We cant afford this to happen again.
