Has anyone considered cancelling their Bell/Cogeco and try OTA anthenna.

I heard you get good reception on them.

It's a nice idea in theory but there are no channels on OTA. Most lists I see show 20 or less available channels, most of them ones I never even watch now (but am forced to pay for via the CRTC).

Stuff like movies or hbo or sports etc you need satellite/cable

Fixed that for you there. I'll be cancelling Cogeco this summer. Cable TV is such a f****** ripoff.

Meh, compression issues aside still not too thrilled with streaming quality of most sites (Netflix and their incredibly limited offerings included).

Maybe once the ISPs start upgrading it might be viable.

Not sure if I heard correctly, but I thought there were some ads stating all analog channels will change to digital including OTA? Would this still work or would you need a box or DTV decoder on your TV?

I only watch the digital channels now anyways. That was an issue back when everyone had old style CRT TV's that did not have digital tuners in them. Nowadays just about any LCD TV will be able to get Digital OTA, and if not you get a $100 box that converts the digital to analog at your set.

I am getting 24 digital channels, of which at least half are hi-def. For free.

But what though? Only channels I ever see are network stuff (CBC, CTV, A, PBS etc)
It's like a step backwards (20 years ago we got cable to get away from those kind of channels & the rabbit ears)

Once you download your favourite shows (and movies for that matter) off sites like icefilms and watch them on your schedule (ie on demand) and not the time that the cable providers expect you to stop what you're doing and watch, you will NEVER go back to that antiquated form of TV watching.

NBC
CBC
CBS
FOX
ABC

all the major networks, in HD. (if you have a good antenna)

So if its on a major network, as all the big games are, then yes, of course sports.

You can also stream live sports, way more than Rogers shows, from around the world on the MyP2P.eu website.

$120/month isnt worth it to get this stuff on cable.

I don't have any rabbit ears, and all the stuff I want to watch is on those channels anyways. If its not and I really want to watch it then as other have said, I can download it. Usually the wife and I have a series we are watching that we downloaded and between that and the movies and shows we record on the Medai Centre PVR, we always have lots to watch.
