So, I was at Rotary park the other night to play some tennis (our only tennis courts in town with lights, thanks Munchi), sunset passed, so I searched for the button for the lights... I couldn't find anything except a rusty box.. "that can't be it", I thought... I opened the rusty latch, opened the panel and found this inside (see below)... a tiny green button in the middle of what appears to be exposed wire connections, and a 3rd wire not connected to anything. (Usually you see a nice weatherproof unit with a big green plastic safe butt5on on the outside of a sealed or locked box. Since I didn't bring my voltmeter along with me, I wasn't sure what to do... we chanced it, got the guy with the skinniest fingers to reach inside and push the tiny green button against his will, and YUP, lights! It is steps away from the kids playground, and about 100m away from the public pool. (location shown in 2nd pic). Just wondering, is this a concern at all? or is this just an extremely low voltage switch sending a mere signal to the lights? ![]() ---

With regard to the exposed wire. It's like when you buy something from Ikea. They always give you a few extra parts you don't need. A few extra screws, a couple extra bolts, extra shelf...etc Same concept here. Extra wires just in case you need them. Did you try licking it to see if it was live? |

Looks pretty sketchy to me. A new weather proof switch box should probably be installed so that people feel comfortable using it. Can't read the labels in there but they may provide some info. People should not need to wonder if they are going to die when touching something in a public park. |
