I have 4 tiny holes, three in the mortar and one in a brick. All appear to be made by a bug and 8-10 inches above ground level.
I saw the arse of something with stripes in one, so I gave them all a shot of pest control juice.
Holes are perfectly round, and slightly bigger than a toothpick in diameter.
Can a bug eat into brick? I googled Termites but don't think that's it. Seems to be a spider or bee of some sort.
I will plug with caulk soon, but want to know what I am dealing with.

Post a pic... they might be there on purpose and the bug may have just moved into the hole...

Keep in mind brick is like a sponge naturally and absorbs water, my new neighbors successfully destroyed their 100 year old house in 1 year by mistakenly plugging up/caulking/sealing the vent holes in their brick.

This guy is a Mortar Bee. AKA Mason Bee.
They are capable to dig holes in the mortar.
Remedy is to seal the hole in late summer.
Good news is they nest alone, not in colonies, and stinger can not penetrate human skin.

I'm guessing your bricks were manufactured in Italy and the bug probably came from Uruguay.

Good question. It's 12 y.o. Sundial.
I've been asking around a lot and nobody is familiar with this bee, but it's definately in Canada.
Lucky me eh?
Found 2 more holes with closer inspection.

I am just going to pump some caulk into the holes this weekend and watch it carefully for new activity.
I've always kept a garbage can there (for dog poop) so maybe its a little damper there and attracting them. The can has now been moved to dry it out.
Little bastards!
