Any opinions on these upgrades, we're still debating... - 40oz Carpet - Shutters (maybe just on family room, patio door and master bedroom... would that be dumb?) - having a second window be operational (we're splitting a big window in the master bedroom into two, and only one of them will be operational) - larger basement windows (window wells may be required... to me that doesn't sound to pleasing) - upgraded trim and baseboard - central vac with toe kick - 45 degree tile in the bathtub and on the ceiling (would it look dumb if the floor was done regularly or should it be on the angle as well?) - grout to match Thanks for any advice/opinions! |

If you're going to go with the 40 oz. broadloom, you might as well save your money and stick with the 35 oz. They shed the same. Underpad upgrade is a must. You can feel the difference. |

I guess it also depends on if you have any future plans to pull out the carpet for hardwood or laminate. We didnt bother with carpet and underpad because we are planning on putting in hardwood within a year or so. I know you can always use the carpet in the basement later on if you rip it out, but I figured why spend like that for carpet that we only might use in the basement. We took the carpet and underpad money and put it into structural things that cant be done later. |

thanks you guys! we are going with the underpad for sure, that's why I didn't ask about it, lol I'll have to remember about the grout sealer, it's something I never would have thought about but will now for sure! |

I'm happy to see the two posts advising not to get the 40oz. carpet. I didn't get it and have been regretting it a bit... but now I feel better. I can tell you one thing I do regret though - not getting the all-wood stairs. Ah man I should have got them. Someone talk me down off the bridge. I can definitely back you up on the 45-degree angle tiles. I've heard that for the money it costs (i.e. very little), the impact it has is dramatic and well worth it. |

funkeemunkee & Rashvir, Just wondering - how did your appointments go? I'm sure you are glad that it's almost over - except for the waiting to see it being all put into place. By the way, how long do they give you to ponder your choices? I thought I read somewhere on here that it's a week or so? And were you at the DC very long this morning? Deborah |

I've heard that for the money it costs (i.e. very little), the impact it has is dramatic and well worth it. I have to admit, I thought the money was not worth it when we chose our upgrades..... But after seeing it in person in the Mattamy model homes, the 45 angle floors do look very nice! Well my 45-degree tiles have been installed and I'm very pleased with them! Totally worth the money. My regret now is that I only got them done on the main floor! They would look great in the bathrooms as well to contrast against the shower tiles (which are installed straight). Now I look at the bathroom floors and think they look so boring in comparison. So just a piece of advice for those of you who are considering it - get it done everywhere! |

Christine... we got them in the bathroom for that very reason, we didn't want to regret it, so better safe than sorry! our appointment went well, we were there for two hours but it didn't feel that long, it went smoothly, we changed one thing and added something we hadn't thought of. We had about 3 weeks between our orientation and this appointment. It seemed like it was a big rush but we were away for a lot of that time... if we'd had a full 3 weeks I think it would have been more than enough. It's such a relief to have it over with now, i think maybe I'll be able to sleep better... no more agonizing wether we're making the right choices... |
