Just looking for some opinions....

I was looking at the upgrade booklet and noticed the option to have an integrated sink in a marble countertop for the bathrooms only. I think I know what this looks like but I'm gonna check out the design centre before deciding. It's cheaper than Quartz, Corian and granite. Has anyone done this? If so, What are your feelings about the look?

Are you referring to real marble or cultured marble?

We have a cultured marble countertop in our current ensuite that we put in a few yrs ago. Best decision. easy to clean and seamless.

In our new home we're upgrading to cultured granite just because it seems to be more of the trendier look these days than marble.

If you're referring to actual real marble, it is porous.
For us it's not a surface we want to have ... especially if you ever use hair dye! ha ha

So I take it that it's not the trendiest thing to do these days. I haven't seen the look yet but, I like the idea of an integrated sink cause I've seen it in Quartz. It does look really easy to clean and I'm a neat freak!

Any other opinions?

I don't think there's anything wrong w/ the look of cultured marble.
IMHO it looks much better than a laminate countertop w/ a top-mount sink any day.

You can get a solid colour cultured marble top w/out veining (or w/ very little veining). I think it's the veining that might date it a bit, (I used to work for a large Kitchen & Bath manufacturer).

The ensuite is the only bathroom we're upgrading the countertop just because it gets so much use and the easy cleaning factor is great.

We haven't actually seen ours yet as we haven't moved in, but...we are getting the cultured marble. We picked black, with a little white veining. It's gonna be wicked!!!

Damn, i'm depressed again. :(
Freaking delays! :x

We also upgraded to the cultured granite in the main bathroom. It looks nice the only thing is that the counter is so long that it looks odd with only one basin - it really should have two. I have to look back at my design center notes but I think that possibly the double sink was an upgrade, that we decided not to take.

In any case, if you chose this option check with your design center consultant on the length of the counter - if it's extra long just spend the money for the double sink because it looks unproportional with one basin.

The double bowl-sink in the ensuite is an upgrade for us. I can't recall the price, but it wasn't cheap since it involves installing more plumbing and paying for another faucet.

I prefer the single-bowl sink myself. There's only one of us at a time in the bathroom and there's more counter top space for my crap... oops, I mean my toiletries :)
