We got the quartz for ours, we haven't moved in yet but we were told it doesn't need to be sealed like the Granite does and that because it is man made the pattern will be consistant. With granite you never know what it is going to look like for sure. That was enough for us to go with the quartz. I do believe that granite has a higher demand for resale, although I do not know why. |

Granite can be stained by things like water, coffee, wine, etc. Quartz is not porous and doesn't ever stain. And like Vikki mentioned, it doesn't need to be sealed on a yearly basis like Granite does. I personally think Granite is so popular in part because it's a buzz word. I think a lot of people may look at corian or quartz and not realize it's not granite. Unless you hang out in a decor centre looking at the labelled samples and obsessing over them, you probably wouldn't know the difference! I just replaced my bathroom countertop, getting ready to sell my house, and I decided not to use granite because of the potential for water stains. We went with a 90/10 granite/polymer mix because it wasn't porous. The same cost and look as granite, but less maintenance. Good luck! |

I don't think quartz comes even close to the beauty of natural stone. You can spot corian a mile away because it looks like plastic. You have to ask yourself if you are willing to give up the look for practicality. I agree it is about personal preference and that corian does not have the shine/look that natural stone has, but quartz does have the shine. We picked a quartz and it looks great (from the samples). I wouldn't say someone is giving up a "look" going with quartz. Just my two cents! Brian |

I agree that the older corian countertops that have been around for a while look very plastic and fake. There is a new line of countertops available now (although I have only seen them at the Arista decor centre, but I'm sure they're other places too) that look completely different. If it wasn't labelled as corian, I wouldn't have believed it was. It has marbled veins running through it, making it look like marble. I much prefer the look of granite, even over quartz, but I don't want to deal with the maintenance. Vikki, I from what I've seen, the quartz is more expensive than the granite, so I don't think it would affect your resale. |
